After spending most of his life in the West End of Winnipeg, Walter and Marie recently made a happy move to Lorette. The memories created at the Banning house will stay with all who had the opportunity to experience Walter’s quiet hospitality.

An avid golfer, Walter spent countless hours on the course, enjoying both the sport and quality time with family and friends. He also enjoyed curling and 8 ball, again belonging to leagues with family and friends. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and just being outdoors!

Known for his dry sense of humor, Walter had a unique ability to make others laugh with his wit. His generosity, kindness, and ability to make people feel welcome will always be remembered.

A service will be held to celebrate his life on Tuesday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have known Walter since 2016 when I joined his Spinal Tap Monday night 8-ball league. His welcoming spirit, easy wit and excellent coaching made Monday nights something to look forward to. Walter was an excellent teacher and I learned a lot from his tutelage. His sense of humor often eased frustration with members pool playing and his encouragement meant a lot. - Posted by: Bonny Hebert (Team Member Spinal Tap) on: Feb 24, 2025

  • I met Walter 30 years ago and soon became friends. I was one of his newest friends. To be his friend was to be a lifelong friend. I will always have good memories of playing 8 ball pool, golfing an curling together. One day he invited me to check out his pool league and out of the blue he told me to grab a cue because I was playing the next match. I'm still playing on his team 14 years later. Walter skipped our curling team to win an event (had to win 14 of 16, 10 end games) and score an 8 ender in the MCA bonspiel. Walter you will be missed by everyone who knew you. - Posted by: Kevin kenaschuk (Friend) on: Feb 23, 2025
