Well, now you all know how old I am!! I grew up in St. James where I attended school then went to Red River College to take on typing and shorthand. Was anxious to work and in 1965 worked with Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited - grain merchants. I enjoyed working in transportation in direct contact with the country elevator manager and the Canadian Wheat Board. It was so fun back then! Looked forward to Friday nights at the Marble Club. Young people who came in after me will never have as much fun as we did!! After 36 years with P&H, I retired in 2001.
My passion was dancing, especially country western two-step and swing. I enjoyed taking many lessons and travelling, meeting many people along the way. I wasn’t very outdoorsy, but when I was catching fish, I enjoyed it!
In 2021 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, but it didn’t stop me from dancing. The nurses and doctors at Health Sciences Centre were amazing with their care, kindness and humour. I want to again thank Dr. Christine Robinson and her colleagues for getting me this far. Christa, it was always a pleasure to talk to you. I so appreciate all of you and the work you do for so many. Let’s hope one day cancer can be beaten! The nurses at St. Boniface Hospital and Victoria Hospital were amazing also. Thank you so much for all that you do. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten! A big thank you to my neighbour Cathy who cared for me right from the beginning and right up to the end. I can’t thank her enough! There were also a few good friends who always kept in touch; you know who you are. I appreciate all of you and your friendship, especially one friend who was in touch with me all the time and helped me with my car.
I leave behind several cousins who I hope will still get together once a month to keep in touch as family. Also, my brother Ron, who taught me how to take care of my car and helped me with many other things; he could fix anything! It was great going out to Comox for family visits and going to Buckley Bay for coffee. My niece Leigh and nephew Colin kept in touch, which I really enjoyed.
To all my dance friends out there, it was the best ride of all! To quote Patricia Anderson, “dancing makes you happy!” Think of me as you enjoy every step and maybe one day we will dance again on another amazing dance floor!
The family would like to give extra thanks and acknowledgment to Norm and Lorraine Parada, as well as the Palliative Care team at Riverview Health Centre. A small, private, family gathering will be held at a later date.

I met Sherril in 1964 when we both took secretarial training at Red River College. When I graduated I took a job at Canadian Indemnity just a stone’s throw from where she worked and we enjoyed a friendship until I started to move around the country for hubby’s career & mine as a flight attendant. Without fail we always at least kept touch at Christmas when I heard all about her love of dancing. Now years later I have settled in Courtenay, BC & knowing Sherril’s brother Ron lives here in Comox Valley I had hoped we would actually see one another after all these years but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. You never want to hear a friend has cancer but she sounded her usual upbeat self and I prayed for the best. I will always remember her deep throaty laugh and smiling eyes and can see her doing the 2-step to her favourite music up there among the angels. Dance on sweet Sherril!! Love, Rita Galliford. My deepest condolences to Ron and family. - Posted by: Rita galliford (friend) on: Apr 25, 2025

Sherrill and I were neighbors in 1955 when she lived with her parents on Parkview Street and I on Marjorie Street. We went to Britannia grade school, Deer Lodge Junior High and St. James Collegiate. We shared many home rooms together and I still have those old class room pictures with us in them. I left St. James in 1963 and we lost touch with one another. Some time ago I was able to say hello thanks to Gary. She will be missed by many. - Posted by: David Warrilow (Old friend) on: Apr 18, 2025

Well my friend, you went out on your terms. I am so very lucky to have been friends with you. I am so very proud of you. You will certainly be missed. I will miss our conversations and all the laughs we shared. I will keep our tradition of the Apple Pie alive, I promise. I will also dance like nobodys watching, just for you. "Cheers, here's to good friends. I love you Sherril. Now show 'em how its done wherever you are!!! - Posted by: Mandy Ducharme (One of many partners in crime ❤) on: Apr 01, 2025

Sherril, my sweet friend, I'm going to miss you terribly. Our outings were appreciated so much. Car rides to Selkirk, Coffee, and VV are not going to be the same. You made my life better just for being my friend. I love you sweet lady and I'll miss you till we meet again. Hugs Sherril. - Posted by: Brenda Cardinal (Friend) on: Mar 29, 2025

I met Sherrill in 2002 when I lived in Ph 7 3000 Pembina Hwy and most recently in Sobeys. I never knew about her illness. She always commented to me when I wore flared bottom skirts, that I look like I am going dancing. Rest in Peace Sherrill and dance all the way to Heaven. - Posted by: Doris Trotz (Friend) on: Mar 29, 2025

I first met Sherril 23 years ago at a studio dance early on in my dance career; she's had such an impact ever since - not only for me but for the entire dance community in Winnipeg and beyond. She encouraged me to keep dancing in those early days and to have as much fun with it as possible. We travelled to many events around North America, she was my biggest cheerleader every time I competed. Some of the best trips were road trips to Regina where she would get a kick out of some really bad singing along to songs in the car. She was a great Ambassador for dance in Manitoba, supporting many dance related events held locally and she helped push a lot of tickets for opportunities to dance. She will be greatly missed. I have so many cherished memories and am grateful for the 23 years I knew her. Thanks for all the memories, dances, laughs and friendship! She'll forever be our "Two Steppin' Sherril". Condolences to the family and friends. - Posted by: Anthony Funari (Dance Friend) on: Mar 29, 2025

Sincere condolences to the family. My sister, Eleanor, was a work colleague. The two became lifelong friends until Eleanor’s passing in 2019. Eleanor will be happy to welcome Sherrill. I’m sure they have a lot of catching up. - Posted by: Dorene Rosmus (Friend) on: Mar 29, 2025

My deepest sympathy to the family. I have honestly been thinking about her for many weeks now wondering how she was doing. The last time I saw her was at her friend Anne’s funeral. Had such a nice chat. I always loved Sherril and will miss her so much - Posted by: Verna Kurcher Nee Borkowski (Ex sister in law) on: Mar 29, 2025
