MARK PETERSON

It is with much sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Peterson, husband to Beverley and father to Kraig Peterson and Kristen Vidomski.

Mark was born in St. Paul MN in 1947 and grew up in Albert Lea MN until moving to Grand Forks to attend UND. After a 3 year stint in the US Army, Mark graduated with a BSc in Speech Pathology and Audiology and went on to later attain his masters.

Following graduation, Mark and Bev moved to Thompson MB where he became the first Speech Therapist for Evergreen School Division. Over the years Mark held many positions with the MB Dept’s of Health and Education, in the Interlake, as a clinician, Provincial Senior Consultant for Speech Pathology, Regional Coordinator and Regional Manager for Parkland/Westman. He was a ground breaker for rural and northern Speech Pathology Services. Over the years Mark worked with many Student Services Administrators and Superintendents, throughout the province. He also spent a few years as Supervisor of Speech Services for the Alexandrian MN area.

Mark had many loves, firstly his family. Each of his kids and four grandsons were a source of pride for what each has accomplished. He loved sports - especially baseball as a youngster and hockey throughout his life; from being a player, coach and manager and he was the biggest fan, whether it be online or at the rink where he made many lifelong friends. He was also an avid fisherman and many were the lucky recipients of his catch as he hated fish unless it was a shore lunch.

Mark is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverley, sons Kraig (Cheryl), Nolan and Joey, daughters Kristen (Mike) Vidomski, Evan and Owen Falk; sister Nicole (Bud) Bodey and family, brother Eric (Linda) Peterson and family, brothers-in-law Barry (Jackie) Broomhall, Brian Broomhall and many cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 12 from 2-5 at Brandon Seniors for Seniors Co-op, 311 Park Ave East (north entrance) and burial will take place at Ft.Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.

Donations in memory can be made in Mark’s name to Hockey Brandon to benefit players in need or a charity of your choice.

  • Bev, I am so sorry to hear of Mark’s passing. I just found out about it today. I have many fond memories of good times spent with you and Mark from the weekends Mark and I spent in Winnipeg seeing you to the long road trip from Thompson to Brandon and of course the midwinter Ripple trips, I also frequently reminisce on the house parties we had while we were all living in Manford. I have been living in Oregon for the past 23 years. My wife Katie and I retired from our jobs in Fargo and moved here. I have Parkinson’s and go to a Parkinson’s therapy group and just last week met a lady from Winnipeg who went to Und. I told here I spent quite a bit of time there with my friend visiting His girlfriend. She said she got her degree in speech therapy. I told her that Mark was also a speech therapist and as far as I knew he last worked in Brandon. She said she has a relative who is a speech therapist in Brandon. She is back in Winnipeg right now and is going to call her relative and ask if she knew Mark. I also found out Today that “Doc” died a few years ago. Over the years I often thought about getting the group together in Grand Forks and go to a hockey game and hang out for a time. I really feel bad that I never did. Miss Bevy I also wished we would have kept in touch over the years. Again I am so sorry for your loss. Tom - Posted by: Tom cassatt (College friend) on: Dec 08, 2025
