DOUGLAS GILLESPIE

Douglas J. Gillespie was born on October 25, 1948, in Dryden, Ontario, to his parents Eldred and Gwendoline Gillespie where he was one of three siblings to include his brother Gary and his sister Gloria. Douglas passed away, while with family and loved ones, on February 28, 2025, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Doug is survived by his sister Gloria, brother-in-law Gene, his sisters-in-law Diane and Bonnie, his sons Bradley and Timothy, daughters-in-law Teresa and Heather and cherished grandchildren Justice, Jackson, and Ava. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who were a very important part of his life.

Doug retired as a Warrant Officer from the Royal Canadian Air Force after over 20 years of dedicated service and went on to additional aerospace work with Bristol Industries and global travel. Being a career military member led Doug to travel the world and bring his family to many new places to live and adventure to be had.

An annual shiny light for Doug was their extended trips to Mexico with family and friends. These trips occupied much of the conversations for the remaining portion of the year, reminiscing old laughs and planning new ones with the people he held dear to his heart. Fortunately, when Doug passed, he was in Mexico and in the company of people he cared for deeply.

Doug's wife, Karen, passed 1.5 years ago and his heart never recovered. He has now gone to join his wife, Karen, who has been saving a spot on the beach for him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 10, 2025, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St, Winnipeg, MB R2V 3S5. All who wish to share some words, a story or picture of either Doug or Karen are invited to do so.

Rest in peace, Dad. We love you.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I first met him at Camp Borden in 1968 where he was taking his initial Instrument/Electrical trade course! At that time he was still wearing his Royal Canadian Navy uniform! I next ran into him when we were both involved with the CF-5 aircraft. He was employed by Bristol Aerospace and I was still serving in HQ. We crossed paths again in Botswana, Africa, both working for Bristol at that time! Rest in Peace, my friend! - Posted by: Robert Lorencz (Friend) on: May 21, 2025
