In Loving Memory
Peacefully, on April 17, 2025, Antonio "Tony" Masi passed away at The Summit in Quadra Village at the age of 79, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Josie (née Pasta) Masi, Tony was a loving husband, father, nanno, brother, and friend.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter that will continue to live on in the hearts of his children, Joe Masi (Jaime Norrie) and Theresa (Darren) Booth, and in the bright smiles of his grandchildren, Kira and Colton, who were truly the joy of his life.
Tony is lovingly remembered by his sister Angie (Mario) Fiorentino, his brother Dr. Ralph Masi, and sister-in-law Angie Masi. He was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Maria Masi, and by his cherished brother Frank Masi. He will be dearly missed by his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and the countless friends who were lucky enough to know him.
Born on April 16, 1946, in Amato, a small town in Calabria, Italy, Tony immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his family, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Among the first of his generation of Italian immigrants to graduate from university, Tony earned his degree in engineering in 1969 and went on to become a respected Civil Engineer.
He spent most of his career with VK Mason and CANA Construction, contributing to landmark projects across Western Canada - from dams and tunnels to towering buildings in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, and Vancouver Island. Many of the structures he helped bring to life still stand today, silent testaments to his dedication and skill.
Tony was known for his warm heart and friendly spirit - a man who lit up every room he entered and left laughter in his wake. His love for life was evident in the simple joys he embraced: a shared meal, a spirited debate with Ralph or Mario, or whistling a tune with his keys jingling at his side - earning him the affectionate nickname "Uncle Jingles."
He faced his final years with courage and grace, never dwelling on illness, but instead savouring every sunrise, every moment with family, and every chance to smile. Family, for Tony, was everything - the reason to get up each day and the greatest joy of his life.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2191 Townsend Rd., Sooke, BC, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Pallbearers will be nephews, Ryan Pasta, Marlon Pasta, Mike Pasta, James Pasta, Stefano Pasta, and Nick Portman.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at the Summit.
Rest now, our Superman. You have earned your rest - not because the journey is over, but because you have seen your family home.

My condolences to the Masi family. I worked with Tony on VK Mason construction projects in Victoria, Nanaimo and Powell River back in the 80s and 90s. He was very professional, and above all, fair, honest and totally dedicated to every project he worked on which always brought great respect from everyone. - Posted by: Doug Anthony (Old Friend/Workmate) on: Apr 24, 2025
