BENJAMIN HEIN
Benjamin Rudolph Hein, at the age of 97 years, and after a life full of many blessings, left us on March 10, 2025, to join his wife Marion, and many cherished family members, in-laws, and friends who predeceased him.
Ben will be greatly missed by his surviving children, Debbie (Bill), Teresa, and Jeffrey (Mireille), and his six grandchildren, Cheryl, Carl, Kristin, Carmen (Shawn), Katarina and Sophia as well as his two great-grandchildren, Shayla and Callie.
As he was preparing for his retirement years, Ben was predeceased by his first wife and life's love Marion, after her brief battle with cancer, in 1985. In 1987 Ben had a second chance at happiness when he married Pauline (nee Gauthier) but was also predeceased by her in 2021. Ben then lost his eldest daughter Cathy (Dieter), after her own courageous battle with cancer, in 2022.
A quiet and intensely private person much of the time, Ben could certainly be animated around those he knew and loved most - his family. With us, he was not shy about sharing his opinion, and dispensing advice based on his hard-earned wisdom. A life as long as Ben's is full of rich experience and colourful stories - coaxing those stories from him over a glass (or two?) of scotch was something we all treasured.
A fiercely independent person, Ben felt great frustration adapting to the limitations of losing his driver's license and the eventual need for assisted living, and finally full personal care at Deer Lodge Centre. To those who cared for him during his last years, we genuinely appreciate your patience and the compassionate way in which he was treated. Thank you.
The simplicity of a bonfire, time spent at the lake, woodworking, reading a good book before a Saturday afternoon nap, and perhaps more than anything besides his family - an extended 'Happy Hour' were things 'Benji' genuinely loved.
We wish to thank his many doctors, nurses and care workers who tended so patiently and lovingly to him, especially those at the Deer Lodge Centre who ensured his gentle passing.
A celebration of Ben's life will take place on May 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., Roblin Grove Condominiums, 5429 Roblin Blvd., Building B, Winnipeg.

I don’t have words to express the impact this man had on my life. I would say he was a second father to me. His wisdom and life experiences that he shared in his stories I pass on to whoever will listen to this day. To his family my deepest condolences. He will be missed. Take comfort in knowing that he is home with his beloved Marion looking over you all. Benjamin rest in peace. - Posted by: Rick Guyader (Son in law) on: May 17, 2025

I worked with Ben at GBR, he was always a good friend and had a wonderful sense of humour. When I first started work we would go for lunch at the Paddlewheel Restaurant in The Bay and he made me feel comfortable. Ben had a wonderful spirit and will be missed at our annual GBR luncheons. - Posted by: Grant Norman (Friend) on: May 15, 2025
