JONATHAN (DAVE) CORBETT

December 23, 1953 - April 23, 2025

After a long fight with Cancer, at 6:47 p.m. on April 23, 2025, Dave, our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away, at the age of 71.

Dave was predeceased by his father Robert and mother Evelyn. Dave will be missed by his daughter McKenzie (Justin) and granddaughter Oaklyn and his son Jonathan, brothers, Allan (Charlaine), Howard (Gale), lan (Carole), and his sister Ruth Johnston (Doug).

He was born in Winnipeg and grew up in St. James attending Silver Heights High School. In his early years, Dave spent many summers with his Grampa Corbett on his farm where he learned how to drive long before he was old enough to get a license. As a teenager he worked at his dad’s car dealership washing cars and sweeping the lot and was even known to drive down the back lane before he got his license. He told his dad he was "testing".

Many summers were also spent attending Faith Bible Camp, a place where he made many lifelong friendships.

When Dad got into the snowmobile business, Dave soon started racing snowmobiles and excelled in this sport by winning a World Championship class at Eagle River, Manitoba Champion multiple times, a Hi Point class winner and competed in the Winnipeg to St. Paul race finishing as high as 17th, Dave worked for his father at Riteway Sports, Kawasaki Central and Corbett Cycle City in the motorcycle and snowmobile business. His final career journey involved managing Birchwood Honda Centre and then Lone Star Mercedes.

Dave was known for his special way of managing people and being a trusted friend to many of his staff. Dave was known for his kindness, his willingness to sacrifice for the benefit of others and his strength of character. His love for his children will always be remembered with fondness.

Special thanks to Ryan Horath and Sarah McDonald who David lived with for the last eight years of his life. Ryan and Sarah and their children Zaiden and Ava were like family to Dave.

Thank you to the exceptional care Dave received at the De Salaberry District Health Centre Hospital, St. Pierre Manitoba.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Breezy Bend Country Club, 7620 Roblin Blvd., Headingley, MB.

In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to Faith Bible Camp (faithbiblecamp.org).

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I met and became best friends with Dave in 1963. We were very close for many years, traveling together, racing snowmobiles, motorcycle trips, and he was Best Man at my wedding. I will miss him dearly and never forget him. My most sincere condolences to his Family at this time. - Posted by: Doug Martin (friend) on: May 05, 2025

  • I was 11 years old when I met Dave and Ian. My late father sold sno-jets out of the car wash he owned in Transcona. My Mom would take me to go get parts and that's where I first met the both of them. That was in 1973. On that day it was Dave who took me to the back and showed me the race sleds I was in awe I got to see Dave and Ian a lot back then. My most cherished memory I have of Dave was in Feb 1974 My dad took me to the CPTC races, it was a Sunday and what a day for me I got to hang out with the both of them, more so Dave then Ian. When Dave was at the Honda dealership on Regent I would stop by to see him and chat. He was one of kind. My deepest Condolence to Ian and all of the Corbett family - Posted by: Dennis Enns (Old Acquaintance) on: May 04, 2025

  • I would like to offer my condolences to the Corbett family in the passing of David, I too worked for the Corbett family, in the late 60's, and got to know the family at the VW dealership doing car washing and parts pickup. - Posted by: Hank Hildebrand (acquaintance) on: May 03, 2025

  • I'm very sad to hear about Dave's passing. I've known Dave, Ian, & Howard since they ran Riteway Sports and Corbett Cycle City. I bought my 1975 Yamaha DT400 for him. Dave and Mike Casey and I would go snowmobiling and dirt bike riding as well. I hadn't seen Dave for quite a few years as I moved lake country near Kenora. I did run into Dave a couple of years ago at Princess Auto and it was great to catch up. He was a GREAT GUY! - Posted by: Paul Tilley (Friend) on: May 03, 2025

  • I had the great pleasure to work with Dave and his family at all three snowmobile and motorcycle businesses. It was many years ago but I still remember how kind and easy going Dave was. My deepest condolences to the entire Corbett family. May you rest in peace Dave. - Posted by: Marlene Dyck (Former employee) on: May 03, 2025
