After a long and lustrous life, we are sad to announce the passing of Clara Durston on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Clara was born in Gilbert Plains on January 28, 1925, and grew up in Dauphin, MB. She was the youngest daughter of Mabel and Herman Love, predeceased by her five siblings, her husband Glen (Dusty) and granddaughter Marlo Jurkowski.
She leaves behind her four children and their spouses, Corinne and Patrick, George and Barb, Pat and Gavin and Pam and Greg. There are seven grandchildren: Ayn, Chloe, Carly, Rachael, Rebekah, Cody and Dustin, three great-grandsons: Pierre, Alex and Rowan and two great-great-granddaughters, Olivia and Zoey.
During the Second World War, Clara worked at Canada Car making airplane parts and doing her part for the war effort. She married Glen (Dusty) Durston on June 19, 1945. Because of Dusty’s work with Manitoba Hydro, they lived in Dauphin, Russell, Popular Point, Steinbach, Brandon and Winnipeg. After Dusty retired in 1979, they moved to their cottage at Falcon Lake. Dusty died in 2017, and Clara remained in her own home until 2020 and then moved in with son George and daughter-in-law Barb.
All the children and grandchildren enjoyed the lake for holidays, with many working there in the summer. Clara and Dusty celebrated anniversaries every five years, so lots of happy memories were made at No. 16 Ace Bay. Close family ties were made with family members because of the many family gatherings over the years.
Clara was a voracious reader, loved card games, entertaining, and cooking. She was a member of the West Hawk United Church and enjoyed many years of membership in the Winfal Seniors.
The family celebrated Clara’s 100th birthday this past January in Winnipeg with family from across the country coming home for the celebration. Clara knew she was well loved and that her family cared for her deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for The Cure, Team Marlo. This will start the 2025 Team Marlo fundraising for breast cancer research.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre in the Hall, 26 Molgat Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, at 2:00 p.m.

I remember going to the Falcon Lake cabin with my parents Norma and Frank Vescio. My Dad met the Durstons in Dauphin during the war and they became friends. My parents lived in Thunder Bay and often would talk about Clara and Dusty and all the fun they had. Thinking of you all at this time. - Posted by: Leslie Walsh nee Vescio (My parents were friends of the Durstons) on: May 03, 2025
