BETTY GRACE GRIGGS

(SAUNDERS)

Betty Griggs started singing in Heaven’s choir on May 6, 2025. Her daughters were at her bedside holding her hand and celebrating her life in her last hours.

After a brief illness and short stay in hospital, she joined her Saviour and beloved husband, Dr. Gordon Griggs in eternity. At 91, she was fully independent and of sound mind. Her strength matched her days, and that was always our prayer.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Gordon Bruce Griggs; her son David; siblings, William, Roderick (Doris), and Kathleen (Ray) Carleton, and Dorothy (Earl) Wilkinson.

Betty leaves behind her daughter Janet Keena (Greg), grandchildren, Jacqueline (Sébastien) and Jessica, daughter-in-law Glenda Griggs, grandchildren, Bryce (Manon), great-grandchildren, Celine and Liam, Braedon (Madison), and Shelby, daughter Catherine Doerksen (Craig), grandchildren, Jennifer and James, daughter Karen Grooters (Rory), grandchildren, Joshua, Mariah, and Victoria, siblings, Brian (Janice), Ruth (Barry) Martin, sister-in-law Eileen Raisbeck, and sister-in-law Julie Griggs.

Betty was born in August 1933 in Winnipeg, married Gordon in 1957, and devoted her life to her faith in Jesus and the love of her family. She was a lifetime member at Calvary Temple, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and participating in Women’s Ministries.

She and Gordon built a cabin at Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre where they spent many cherished summers boating, swimming and attending church services with their children and grandchildren. Her wisdom and constant prayers left a lasting impact on our lives.

She passed down her love of baking, travel, the Royals, writing, history, music, and current events. From spring breaks in Scottsdale and road trips to the lake, and lunches with children and grandchildren, Mom was always available to her family and cheering us on.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the medical and nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their exemplary care.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Temple.

Face to face with my Redeemer,

Jesus Christ who loves me so.
