EDITH GRACE CHENIER

June 20, 1925 – May 25, 2025

Peacefully in her sleep, on May 25, 2025, and less than a month before her 100th birthday, Mom, Deed Chenier, left us to join the love of her life, our Dad Eddy Chenier in Heaven. Deed was also predeceased by her brother Ted Royal and her son Glen Chenier. Left to mourn Deed's passing are her daughter Gail & Danny Adair, her son Mark & Irene Chenier, her sister Edna & Bernie Dixon, and her grandchildren Daran & Chantel Adair, Dana Adair, Jeremy Chenier, Kyle & Liesl Chenier, Steve Chenier, Josh & Chandle Chenier, and Marie Stillwater. Deed is also survived by her daughter-in-love Allison Clark, daughter-in-law Judy Chenier, her foster grandson Ed Dovidija and eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Deed was known for her great love of life, her love of people, her wonderful humour and feisty nature, and her love of dancing. Mom was talented in many ways, she sewed clothing for family, made fancy ladies’ hats, cut and styled hair, did needlepoint, knitted cozy sweaters, and painted wonderful oil paintings.
During the war years Deed supervised a staff working on airplane parts for the Lancaster bomber. Throughout her married life Deed was a wonderful loving mother and willingly followed Eddy around the country during his Air Force career. Later in life she joined Eddy in selling real estate.
After retirement, Deed, along with Eddy, traveled extensively. They attended many Air Force conventions, took many cruises, and spent about twenty-five years wintering in California. There, Deed was known for her swimming talents. Even at age ninety she was still swimming one hundred laps a day!
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimoidere Blvd, Winnipeg MB. The memorial service will be livestreamed: https://youtube.com/live/0kC0m E30mx4?feature=share

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Ed & Deed were lovely people. My late husband & l enjoyed their company so much. I was her art teacher for several years and yes, she did some beautiful work. They visited with us at our cottage, invited us to attend one of Ed’s airforce soirées and their wedding anniversary party at the Condo. They were the first to welcome us when we moved there. I admired the love they clearly had for each other and their devotion to each other. I read Deed’s story of life in St. Vital. Somehow time passes and l didn’t see her during the later years, but l did think of her. My condolences to the family. May they dance to love songs in heaven. Sincerely, Isla Touchette. - Posted by: Isla Touchette (Friend & neighbour at Riverside Estates.) on: Jun 08, 2025

  • My heart goes out to the Chenier family… There is no way to describe how blessed I feel to have had known Deed ( Grandma C ) Chenier. I met her in 1972 when my parents bought the house next door to them in Transcona ( I was 5 years old.) This sweet soul stepped up to be a grandmother to a little girl who lost her biological ones in a very short time , and I could not thank her enough for that. Deed showed me the love & understanding, guidance & support of a real grandma throughout my life. Not only did she see me enter grade 1 & graduate grade 12 but she saw me get married and have a family of my own. I will cherish the memories I have of her forever . May you rest in eternal peace Grandma C … I love you - Posted by: Brenda Thiessen (Neighbor) on: Jun 01, 2025

  • My parents (Adelard & Margery Bourgeois) were lifelong friends with Edith & Eddy. Dad and Eddy went to Provencher school together and joined the RCAF along with Chris Whelan in WW2. The two couples double dated before they were married. I have a photo somewhere of the two couples on Royal Avenue in front of the house that Deanna Durbin used to live in (before she became a Hollywood star). Edith grew up on Royal Avenue in St-Vital, which was named after her family. Her father served in WW1 at Vimy Ridge. Edith's mother (Mrs Royal) used to babysit us when we lived in Norwood on Champlain Street. - Posted by: Ronald P Bourgeois (Son of their best friends) on: May 31, 2025

  • What a wonderful lady Auntie Deed was! I have so many beautiful memories of her. She was always full of joy and laughter, and always so kind. I'm sure she and Uncle Ed are teaching the angels the boogie-woogie right now! - Posted by: Annette Bonomo (Niece) on: May 31, 2025

  • Our sincere condolences to the Chénier family. As neighbours in Riverside Estates we remember her great sense of humour and her total participation in all our social activities. Loved listening to her stories of the early years during the war. - Posted by: Larry and Mickey Kuprowski (Neighbour) on: May 31, 2025
