After a brave, year-long fight against small cell lung cancer, Lois Alberta Forzley gently passed away at Palliative Care at the St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Surrounded by family and dear friends, her last weeks were spent visiting, resting and bravely continuing to fight. On Thursday May 15, 2025, at dawn, Lois Forzley returned home.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Raymond, her son Brian and her daughter Jennifer-Rae.
Lois's journey with cancer began in her mid 40's with a breast cancer diagnosis. She fought hard, underwent treatments and went into remission only for the cancer to return twice more. Again, Lois fought back for the life she so valued and again the cancer went into remission.
In May 2024, after a life threating case of pneumonia, Lois was diagnosed with small cel lung cancer. She fought back with all of her strength, supported by her devoted husband Ray and her two children. The last year that she had with her beloved family and friends was precious.
Lois led a full life and after a long career in administration at a number of schools, she and Ray retired to their lake front home on Black Sturgeon Lake in Ontario. Married to Ray for over 50 years, Lois enjoyed the life that they built together. Their marriage was filled with love, mutual respect, compromise and understanding. Ray stayed by her side until the final hours of her life honouring his vows to the fullest; till death do us part.
Lois loved her work and she often shared about the friendships she had made through her career. Some of the most important relationships to Lois were found through her long career working with students and staff in the former Assiniboine South School Division. Her days at Pacific Junction Elementary School were some of her happiest and she often shared stories about those days.
Lois was a mother figure to many and she has left behind a legacy of loving relationships with those who touched her life in the deepest ways. Of all the roles Lois played in so many people's lives, the role she coveted most was being "Grandma Lo" to her two grandsons Jack and Josh Forzley. Some of her most cherished times were spent visiting her "BC Fam" which was her son Brian, daughter-in-law Karen, and grandsons Jack and Josh. Her visits there were full of time spent outdoors, family dinners and bonding time with her grandkids. She was a very proud grandmother and took her role as the "Jammie Grammie" very seriously. She loved her grandsons with all of her heart.
Family was Lois' top priority. She showed up for those she loved with support, strength and a smile that lit the room. She is greatly missed by those who walked her home and she will forever be in the hearts and memories of those who cherished her life here on earth.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. to be held at Chapel Lawn located at 4000 Portage Avenue. A Zoom link will also be available for those who can not attend in person. All are welcome to come and honour, celebrate and grieve this loss with family and friends.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

Joy and I are so sorry to hear of Lois's passing. We enjoyed her and Ray's company over the years at their cottage at Pelican Pouch lake. Lois didn't like the "smeglys" in the water and they decided to get property on Black Sturgeon lake and start from scratch to build a beautiful home that they lived in for a number of years. Over the years we lost touch but we will always have the wonderful memories to cherish. - Posted by: Hans and Joy Janssen (Friends) on: Jul 05, 2025
