JIM FIELDER

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 between 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Location-Dalnavert Museum and Visitors Centre, 61 Carlton Street, Winnipeg.

Jim Fielder, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario. Jim was predeceased by his older sister Patricia (1957) parents Gordon Fielder from Kenora, ON (1999) and Evelyn Johnson from Rivers MB (2004).

Jim’s early years were spent in the natural beauty of Port Arthur, where he attended Hillcrest High School. His passion for learning and his commitment to excellence led him to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg where he earned a Bachelor of Science and followed it up with a Law Degree, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in law and community service.

After graduating, Jim joined the prestigious firm of Tupper & Adams in Winnipeg, where he honed his skills and became a respected figure in the legal community. His entrepreneurial spirit and desire to make a more personal impact led him and his colleague Hugh Adams to become Manitoba Insurance Agents for First Canadian Title, establishing a regional office - that grew to service Manitoba, SK, NWT, YK and Nunavut - which he successfully ran until his retirement.

However, retirement did not mean slowing down for Jim. His dedication to public service saw him continue to work with small communities as their Chief Administration Officer. He spent two years working in Lynn Lake prior to relocating to the Municipality of Russell Binscarth where he served the community for six years.

Jim’s life was one of constant engagement and service. His work extended beyond his professional commitments, touching the lives of many in the communities he served. He was a man who believed in the power of local community actions to improve lives and was always ready to lend his expertise and support wherever it was needed. He was particularly proud of his work with the Manitoba branch of the CDA.

He is survived by his loving husband, Thomas, and his half-brother, David Wynn (Ann) as well his niece Theresa-Ann Pepin (Todd) and nephew Michael Wynn (Crystal). Jim’s partner and family were the cornerstones of his life, and he cherished the time he spent with them.

His support, thoughtful advice, and the love he shared with friends and family, will be deeply missed. Flowers are gratefully declined; if friends so desire, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Jim was part of our high school gang back in Thunder Bay. We shared so many good times growing up together, good old Hillcrest High. Jim and I and many friends went to the University of Manitoba to continue our education. Jim and I took a little longer to find our path and found ourselves as roommates in our final year of University. I never had a better roommate! He was a friend who inspired me, we shared the joy of learning, questioning, and sharing daily what we had learned. We upheld each other with mutual support in mind and spirit. I stayed with you both many times when continuing education would bring me to Winnipeg. When Brian and I needed a lawyer, of course, it was going to be Jim. There are people who grace your life and you never forget them. Jim was never forgotten by me and always loved. My deepest Sympathies Thomas Sincerely Wendy Brownlie (Hardman) - Posted by: Wendy Brownlie (Friend) on: Jul 28, 2025

  • Jeff and I were saddened to hear of Jim’s death. We remember fondly the years we spent on Park Royal Bay next door to Jim and Thomas. Generosity and superb hospitality were the hallmarks of their home. To Thomas and Jim’s family, we offer our deepest condolences and pray that your countless memories will help ease the pain of Jim’s death. • I met Jim in the late70’s when I worked with Avco Finance - where we were both starting our careers - him in law and me in finance. There was a span of 10 years where we lost touch and reconnected when I moved to Winnipeg with BMO and Tupper Adams was our legal counsel. He will surely be missed by so many but we will keep that infectious laugh close to our hearts! RIP Jim 💜 - Posted by: April Kennedy (Friend) on: Jul 13, 2025

  • At first Jim was a business associate and after getting to know him and enjoying his wonderful sense of humour, I became a client of his. He was very down to earth, and he had my 90 year old aunt in stitches. When we left his office she said, “I have never met a lawyer quite like him!” He truly was one of a kind and will be missed. - Posted by: Frances Bradley (Business and client) on: Jul 12, 2025

  • I met Jim many years ago while working at BOM and we became friends. Jim was the kindest sincere and funny guy, the world is losing a great guy. My Condolences to the family during this time of great loss. - Posted by: Lori Swanson (Friend) on: Jul 12, 2025
