Diane passed away of cancer at hospice at Jubilee in Victoria.

Predeceased by her parents Edouard and Bernadette, her sister Claudette and nephew Christopher. She is survived by sisters Raymonde, Suzanne (Darryl) Therese (Dennis) beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends

Diane graduated from University of Manitoba and she lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba for most of her life.

She was a teacher, a librarian and a principal. In 2006, she moved to Victoria where she enjoyed her part time retirement and substitute teaching until 2016.

Diane’s deep faith and love of God gave her the strength she needed to deal with her cancer.

Diane loved her family and friends and shared many of her life and travel adventures with them. She can best be described as an independent, fun loving, caring individual. Saddened by her death, we are left with treasured memories. She will be missed by all.

A funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church 4040 Nelthorpe St , Saanich on Thursday August 7 at 11:00 a.m. reception to follow.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I met my dear friend Diane in 1975 when we were both new teachers. We instantly became friends and began a 50 year friendship that remained until her untimely passing. Diane was the life of the party and always had a positive spirit and enjoyed life to its fullest. Diane was a well loved teacher and administrator. We travelled together and I have many fond memories of our time together! The Luxton women have lost a very special person. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Marcey Dveris (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2025

  • Diane, on behalf of your fellow 1968 Louis Riel cheerleaders, may you rest in peace. Those were days filled with school spirit, shakers, and the kind of friendships that leave a lasting imprint. Time may have passed, but the memories remain vivid. With love and remembrance, Lynne Ducharme - Posted by: Lynne Ducharme (School mate) on: Aug 09, 2025

  • Rest in Peace, my friend Diane, Condolences to your family and close friends. Diane and I met while teaching together at General Wolfe School in Winnipeg's West End.. Over the years we remained close friends, and I have special memories of our visits together in Victoria , concocting sea food dishes in her kitchen , enjoying stories with joy and laughter, over a glass of wine and long walks along the ocean. Sending love always , Diane. "When you awaken in the morning's hush. I am the swift uplifting rush, Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night, Do not think of me as gone ... I am with you still - in each new dawn." • I was saddened by Diane’s passage. She fought valiantly for her health and I admired her greatly for her optimism and her resolute dedication to getting out in the world to walk or shop or play a round of golf. I had the pleasure of counting Diane as an old friend. I first met her when in our twenties, we taught at Luxton School in Winnipeg. I was invited to join the Luxton Lovelies, a gregarious and boisterous group of young women who met once a month. Acting as hostess rotated and we all had our turns and I still have some great recipes from that time. I made Diane’s Chicken casserole more than once. Diane was a fun loving free spirit. She brought great ideas to our get togethers and made us laugh. She was also a great and much loved teacher. I moved to Vancouver Island in 2017 and have also had to cope with cancer treatments. We reconnected through a mutual friend and had some heart felt conversations about our experiences and feelings. I will treasure those moments with Diane and hope that in a small way, I brought her a smidgeon of joy and a sympathetic ear. Farewell Diane. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Therese Duval (Friend and colleague) on: Jul 22, 2025
