Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD DUNCAN
It is with deep sadness we announce Don's passing on July 15, 2025, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and the very best grandpa.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 43 years, Janis, son Derek (Chantal), daughter Ashley (Dallas), six grandsons, Dominic, Alexandre, Zachary, Dax, Milo and Reeve, his sisters, Beverly, Barbara (Al), sister-in-law Wendy (Harvey), mother-in-law Beverley (Bob), and his many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Jean, brother Edward and brother-in-law Brian.
Don was born in Winnipeg where he spent his whole life. He attended Principal Sparling School and then Daniel McIntyre where he made lifelong friends.
Sports were a big part of Don's life with hockey taking the forefront. From having his skates tied by his dad (coach) at a young age to working his way to playing Major Junior for Midland Centennials, hockey was his greatest love, until he met Janis, who could be seen in the stands at every game. When his Major Junior days were over, he continued playing with friends on the Shooters. When the hockey skates were hung up, the gang moved on to fishing and golf. Don coached Derek in hockey for many years. When hockey season ended, Don could be seen at the soccer field coaching Ashley's team. In the past several years he has been the best skate tier, quiet coach and biggest fan to his grandsons.
In 1982 he began his long career in the welding industry driving the truck for CANOX (later BOC). He moved into sales, and in 2007 moved to ITW Welding North America as their District Manager Manitoba/Saskatchewan. Don was well respected by those he did business with and made many friends over the years.
Don and Janis shared a passion for travel, often accompanied by friends or family. Some of these trips involved golfing which Don and Janis loved to do together. There was never a time when music was not being played, whether it was at the beach, bonfire or throughout the house as Don enjoyed every genre of music. Often these turned into dance parties with the grandkids.
Don's easy demeanour and soft spokenness is what endeared him to those who shared his life and the family would like for you to share in a celebration of Don's life which will be held on Thursday, July 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Arena - 271 Cathedrale Ave., St. Boniface
Don spent all his life enjoying the family cottage at Matlock built by his dad. It became even more special when it was filled with love and laughter with the family Don and Janis created together. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Don's memory can be made to Lake Winnipeg Foundation.

Don was one of those lifelong friends that you looked forward to seeing and wanted in your circle. His quick wit and humour delivered with a calm demeanor was always entertaining. A lot of us enjoyed and will miss the golf weekend outings with his hockey buddies which quite often ended with an overnight stay at his cabin enjoying a few cocktails and many laughs. Knowing how happy and proud Don was of his family and grandkids makes the loss even harder to accept. Our condolences to Janis & Family. My heartfelt Condolences to the Family, I met Don back in the nineties during his tenure at BOC and continued with ITW. Our professional partnership through mutual respect developed to friendship during the 30 plus years. Don was a key go too person when needed professional advice and has helped solving many a technical issue in relation to welding. We always kept in touch, travelled on projects, running into each other at airports …The industry will miss his talent, knowledge, willingness and professionalism with a smile. Our Sincere condolences to Jan, Derrick and Ashley, and all their partners, and children. Such a sad loss of a wonderful friend, and neighbour. Don loved socializing, chatting about sports, and life in general. Always willing to help others with their projects, offering advice, and his experience, and offering to work with you. Lots of good times, with he and Jan, Christmas parties, neighbour get together meals, and fire side chats, and a cold beer when thirsty. He is certainly missed, and we are thankful for all the great memories we shared with Don, and Jane.. We will remember! - Posted by: Duncan and Patti (friend and neighbour) on: Jul 22, 2025

My deepest condolences to Janis and Duncan Family. Don and I started in the welding industry pretty much at the same time and it wasn't until we both got into sales we got to know each other. We formed a strong relationship when Don went over to Miller electric and friends to this day. I always enjoyed our meetings on the golf course or a quick lunch. Don was always so accommodating and wanted to make sure that you had everything you needed. I was able to talk to Don early this month, and I can still hear his voice to this day. He was truly a great man and loved his family. We always had conversations about our grandkids. I'll miss our visits together. Rest easy my friend, until we meet again. 💔 - Posted by: Marcel McIvor (Friend/welding industry partner.) on: Jul 22, 2025

My condolences, Janis, Derek & Ashley, your husband, father was truly a great man! R.I.P Don!! Until I see you again! - Posted by: Kevin Cole (Co-Worker) on: Jul 22, 2025

My sincere condolences to Jan and the family for the loss of this kind soul. Don was a strong part of many of the fondest memories in my life where Don and some of the other boys allowed me (a girl) to join them at marbles, football at Sparling by the flagpole, hockey on the street and at the rink then warming up by the wood burning stove. I have always credited Don and that group of boys (you know who you are) for paving the way for me to live, love, and laugh because of my involvement in sports. Role model kids accepting everyone. I will always remember Don with a big smile whenever I saw him and Janice at the Jets games. RIP Don - Posted by: Terri Tonnellier (Childhood friend) on: Jul 21, 2025

Janis, Derek , Ashley, Dallas , Chantelle, and the kids, words cannot describe how very sorry we are for your loss. We had just learned of his illness. We have been next next-door neighbours at the lake for the past 33 years. Manny and Don were the same age, enjoyed a beer, a conversation, a friendship. Our kids are about the same age, played in the treehouse where the grandkids also now play. Don was always the last one at the end of the year to close up the cottage and the first one to open it up. He will for sure be missed by us and our family, rest in peace dear friend. We are here for you Janis, and family. - Posted by: Manny and Lucy (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2025

My condolences to Donald's loved ones and all others dear to him. We went to school together and played hockey (Sparling Sparrows) and he was our El Capitan. He was a very good player without an attitude or arrogance attached to him. His father was Coach Duncan and he and my father would load up their cars with gear and players as sometimes they were the only ones taking us to hockey games. Fond memories they are and although we lost touch the rest of us have not forgotten each other. God bless. - Posted by: Kris Anderson (Team member and schoolmate.) on: Jul 19, 2025
