MURIEL LOEPPKY

July 26, 1929 – July 10, 2025

Muriel Loeppky (née Publow), age 95, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, surrounded by love.

Muriel was a woman of unwavering and no-nonsense love for her family. Her smile was bright and she laughed frequently. Born and raised in Winnipeg to Raymond and Flora Publow, Muriel attended Laura Secord School and Gordon Bell High School, and went on to graduate from the Grace Hospital School of Nursing.

Her nursing career took her to Carman, MB, where she met George Loeppky while singing in the church choir. The two were married for 49 years. Muriel later worked as a nurse in Ashern and at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg.

A proud Winnipegger through and through, Muriel was a lifelong fan of the Blue Bombers and the Jets - cheering them on with heart and loyalty.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward: her children David and Sharon Loeppky (Lummi Island, WA), Lindsay Loeppky and Kelly Thomas (Winnipeg), Verna Mumford (Bellingham, WA), Trish Newbold (Bellingham, WA), and son-in-law Rick Taylor (Vancouver, BC); 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Katherine Oliver (Luton, UK); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Muriel was predeceased by her husband George; daughters Linda Ruth "Ruthie" Loeppky and Mary Lee Taylor; her siblings Robert Publow, Doreen Hogins, and Verna Melanson; and son-in-law Tim Mumford.

A private service for family and close friends will be held in Carman this October.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba / The Loeppky Family Endowment Fund (533A-715 McDermott Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 1M6), the Mary Lee Taylor Memorial Scholarship (Britannia Secondary School, 1001 Cotton Drive, Vancouver, BC, V5L 3T4), or to a charity meaningful to you.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Muriel and my Mom had been friends since kindergarten. Mom used to sing with Bob and Muriel also. The ‘girls’ or CLUB as they called it got together until they were in their late 80s or early 90s. I fondly remember them being at our house many years ago and them laughing until the late hours of the evening. Muriel was always kind and warm and so interested in chatting with us kids. I’m sorry for such a big loss. - Posted by: Lorna Robb (Friend) on: Jul 19, 2025
