It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Buhay at the age of 84, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Colleen, Brenda, and Russell (Krista) Thompson; stepchildren Debbie (Ryan), Cindy, Wendy, Fred, and Kerry; grandchildren Ashley and Tyler; many step grandchildren; brother Bob (Betty); sister-in-law Angèle; nieces and nephews; and friends Linda, Carol, and Judy.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Fred Buhay; her parents Jonas and Adina Friesen; and her siblings, Bert, Jan, Bruce, Marlene, and Brian.
Carol was born and raised in Steinbach, MB where she worked as a hairdresser for many years. Her career in Winnipeg included Kmart, RJs Pizza, and over 20 years with CIBC. Carol and Fred spent three years in Rankin Inlet where she adapted to Northern life, making the most of any situation, including riding an ATV to CIBC in -40°C weather. They were welcoming hosts, enjoying happy times at their Falcon Lake cabin and countless Friday night “Jar Bars” with friends and family. After retirement Carol was a regular volunteer at the Victoria Hospital gift shop. She delighted in sitting outside, chatting with her apartment block friends. Her girls will miss Skip-Bo games and casino trips with their dear mom.
Carol will be remembered for her boundless kindness and her unwavering support for those she loved. She made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. Her warm smile and gentle spirit leave an enduring legacy of love and compassion.
The family would like to thank Dr. Christiansen at the St. Boniface Hospital for his care.
A funeral will be held Monday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1541 St Mary's Rd. Donations in Carol’s honour can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

I remember Carol driving Brenda and I along with others to confirmation classes at Beautiful Saviour. She was always so sweet and kind to me. Even later when I would see her at the bank or at church more recently. My heart goes out to you Colleen, Brenda, and Russell and your family. Your Mother was such a lovely lady. - Posted by: Tammy Stark (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2025

Carol will be missed sitting outside of our block. Her beautiful smile and gorgeous blue eyes stood out among her gentle presence in our group. We had countless laughs sitting together ❤ Her eyes lit up when Colleen and Brenda showed up almost on a daily basis. She was so grateful for both of you and appreciated everything you did for her ❤ Rest in peace sweet Carol. - Posted by: Pat Krueger (Friend) on: Aug 01, 2025
