On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Lyle Merrell passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years.
Lyle was born in Roblin, grew up in Dauphin and graduated in pharmacy at the U of M in 1958.
He is survived by his wife Sally, brother Barry (Lorraine) and several nieces and nephews including special niece Arla. He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings.
Lyle had a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, beginning as a sales rep for the West Indies based in Jamaica, where lifelong friendships were formed and he was introduced to the game of rugby.
He had a talent for leadership and subsequent years found him travelling throughout Europe and the Middle East as area manager. He joined Allergan, a California based company, in 1975 and ran their Montreal operation. Allergan acquired a company in Italy and Lyle was asked to relocate to run the operation there. He subsequently was President of Webber in Toronto.
Lyle was a natural athlete, a winning sprinter in high school, and a dedicated rugby player. During the Montreal years he was president of the Town of Mount Royal rugby club and was instrumental in their acquiring a club house.
He was a man of integrity and character. He was respected by his peers and deeply cared for by his family.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
