AUDREY BORODY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Borody (nee Wasylenko) on Saturday, March 1, 2025, with son Cavin and daughter Claire by her side. Audrey is survived by her children, as well as, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends that she loved deeply. Audrey is predeceased by her beloved husband Mel, brother Steve and sister-in-law Iris, brother Walter and sister-in-law Lesia, and her parents Anna and Fred Wasylenko.

Mom often acknowledged that her life had been blessed. She had a nearly sixty-year partnership with the love of her life, two children with whom she maintained loving and caring bonds, many close relationships with friends and family members and an interesting and fulfilling career as a teacher. Audrey and Mel spent their early retirement years enjoying their cottage paradise at Lac Lu where they regularly hosted visits from family and friends. They also travelled the world and forged decades long friendships with fellow travelers.

Audrey was a tireless volunteer with a number of local organizations and was an environmental activist years before that became mainstream practice. She appeared regularly on local television, urging people to recycle and reuse. She loved the planet and really enjoyed being outdoors to fully appreciate it.

Mom was a cheerleader for those in need of encouragement, a great listener for those who needed to be heard and a motivated doer for those in need of help. She will be remembered for her great curiosity about life in general, her very genuine interest in people, her endless kindness, open mindedness in all things and her tenacity. She was outspoken about the things she believed in and those she did not.

We love you. We miss you. We cherish you. You will be in our hearts forever.

A small private memorial took place in early June. Audrey’s final resting place is Green Acres in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Condolences to Claire and Cavin. Your Mom and Dad were second to none. When we moved into the city, their home was our second home. We spent many a Saturday at their place watching wrestling on TV. Enjoyed my teaching at Hampstead and the pranks we played on our staff. Looked forward to her dinners, Gordon Ramsay couldn't compare. May they rest in peace. - Posted by: Olia Susky (Friend and cousin) on: Sep 05, 2025

  • Dear Cavin and Claire. Thank you for the beautiful tribute to Audrey who I too will cherish forever. She and Mel welcomed me into your family home where she put up with our many antics. She was such a sport, so spirited, loved to laugh and was an amazing cook and baker. Her epic vina tarta was never safe and I’ll always remember her threats to put a lock on her freezer when I came over. I was blessed to have her in my life and hold in my heart the many memories I have of her. Much love to you both. - Posted by: Judi Bauer (Friend) on: Aug 16, 2025

  • My sincere condolences to Audrey's family. I grew up in Sandy Lake and knew Audrey's family very well. In later years as a trustee in River East Transcona School Division I was again reacquainted with Audrey and Mel. I knew Audrey to be kind and passionate about things she liked and approved of and those of did not like or approve of so much. My hope for you as her remaining children and extended family is to remember the good times and for those memories to sustain you in these difficult times. Rest in peace, Audrey. • Beautiful obit, Cavin. That last paragraph. Whump! Right in the heart. I know those words to be true. My condolences. Thanks for sharing this tribute to your mom. I’d forgotten about your mom’s recycling activism. - Posted by: Bill Redekop (Friend) on: Aug 10, 2025
