MAUREEN SALTER

(JENNINGS)

October 24, 1935 - July 27, 2025

Sadly, on July 27, 2025, our beloved Mother Maureen passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89.

Maureen was predeceased by her husband Lawrence, parents Muriel (Watson) Jennings and Ernie Jennings. Also, by her siblings Vera and Kenneth.

She leaves to mourn her daughters Ruth Dumenko and Kathleen Kennedy, son-in-laws Allan Dumenko and Stuart Kennedy. Also, her grandchildren Matthew and Lauren Dumenko along with many loved ones.

Maureen was raised in Elmwood. She attended Lord Selkirk school where she met and married her husband of 60 years Lawrence.

Mom was a truly creative, life loving and completely selfless human being. She had countless achievements.

For multi generations, Mom’s family had a common interest in the outdoors and all aspects of wildlife conservation. She was involved with the Winnipeg Game and Fish association for many years and along with her parents and siblings shot competitively and was a champion riflewoman at a very young age.

As a youth she was an avid swimmer, lifeguard and instructor. She later volunteered tirelessly at the YMCA-YWCA Elmwood Kildonan branch and she and Dad were longtime members of the “Roadrunners Seniors Club” at the “Y”.

She was a passionate gardener, an extraordinary seamstress, designer and artist. She volunteered also at the Manitoba Museum for 30 years where her creative gifts and love of history came together.

Maureen was an extraordinary parent, grandparent and role model. Her likes will never be seen again, but her love and her joyfulness live on in us.

We would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers and Nurses who helped us to keep our Mom at home during these last years. God Bless you all.

A Memorial will be held on August 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Henderson Legion #215 at 215 Maxwell King Dr.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Your humor, your laugh, your compassion, your enthusiastic love of life. These are just a few of the memories I will always cherish of my "drinking auntie". Love Glen - Posted by: Glen and Wendy Hough (nephew) on: Aug 15, 2025

  • Ruth your Mom was a really nice lady. One of my greatest memories was when she would drive us on a school outing and would let us hang our feet out the back window in your station wagon. I got to meet you parents again when I was married at Hecla and introduced them to Mike. Plus as the years went on I saw her from time to time and she always remembered me. Now I don't know if that was because I was good or bad :) Just the same you had a Fantastic Mom and I know you will miss her dearly - Posted by: Carol (Friend) on: Aug 12, 2025
