Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTEL RUTH DREWS
It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Christel peacefully passed away in her sleep after suffering for years with heart disease and dementia. She is now at peace in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her sons Arnold, Edgar (Monique) and Gordon (Ivy) as well as her four grandchildren: Kaytlin (Royce), Jessie (Jordan), Brenden (Sheryl) and Garrett. As well as great-grandchildren: Avery and Xander. Also mourning is her sister Mariechen Gruhle and sister-in-law Doris (Marcel) Monney, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Christel was pre-deceased by her husband Gotthold and her parents Emil and Berta Heymann, and brothers Willi, Erich, Hans and sister Irmgard.
Christel immigrated to Canada from her birthplace of Jurgensburg, Germany in 1951 to Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was ideal because she joined the families that had already located to the city. Winnipeg was her lifetime home. She met and married Gotthold in 1955, both at the young age of 20. Three children followed quickly each born two years apart. It was a busy household with Mom being the perfect homemaker. She was a great cook, seamstress and loved to garden. Religion was very important to her, being a member of the Lutheran Church.
A new family adventure began in 1970 with the building of a cottage at Hillside Beach. Many lifetime memories were made there. Even with her dementia struggles, it was a place she never forgot. A major challenge occurred with the passing of Gotthold in 1995. She persevered with the help of family and friends. She even managed to travel back to Germany with her sister Mariechen and good friend John Bourbonnais.
Even though Christel's journey on Earth has ended, she will always be lovingly remembered. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received at Harmony Courts and Meadowood Manor.
Memorial service will be held August 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street,
West St. Paul.
