Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJ. DAVID ETCHEVERRY
Surrounded by the love of family and care providers, Dave passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Residence.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Colleen Mickaniec of 39 years, son Jared (Marie); two grandchildren, Calvin and Leah whom he adored; son Joshua and in-laws, Barb And Ted McQuarrie.
Dave was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to Dora and John Etcheverry. He had four brothers and three sisters; Jeannine (Mel), Lionel (Patty deceased), Ray (Jenny), Gil (Val), Yvonne (Dennis), Michelle (Pete) and Gerald; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dave worked for the Manitoba government in various departments throughout his career until retiring from the department of education in 2010.
Dave was an excellent cook, throwing meals together with whatever was available. He was very proud of teaching his brother Gil how to cook a great steak. Woodworking was also in his blood. He built his home on Nicolette Avenue in Winnipeg with help from family and friends.
Sailing was his passion and he sailed on Lake of the Woods and Lake Winnipeg for 25 years, making many lifetime friends. He then took up RVing (sailing on land), travelling to Alaska, various parks in Canada and snow birding in Arizona (Yuma and Gold Canyon). After travelling the RV was parked at the Oasis Trailer Park.
Dave made friends wherever he went.
The family would like to thank the awesome staff, who became like family, at St. Joseph’s Residence where he spent his final years.
At the family’s request, there will not be a funeral service.

I was sad to hear of Dave’s passing. It was a pleasure knowing Dave. He always met you with a smile and his good disposition. We enjoyed many coffee breaks together at Student Aid. Dave’s was always eager to make the workplace better and he was always happy to lend an ear! Later, Eldon and I met Colleen. We visited them in Yuma in their new RV and at their Oasis haven. I am thankful for those good memories. Sincere condolences to Colleen and both their families. - Posted by: Rachel Parkinson (Coworker) on: Aug 21, 2025

My Condolences to Colleen, Jared and Josh and their families. I've known Colleen and Dave for too many years to recall. First as sailors on C dock at Northern Harbor and then sharing some RVing adventures. Rest in peace Dave. - Posted by: Mary Haimes (Friend) on: Aug 09, 2025
