Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Sister Louise was the Principal throughout my years at St. John Brebeuf. On reflection, I recall that she knew all the students by name, and was a definite 'presence' in the day to day school dynamics. She had a warm demeanor, but, you did not want to get in her bad books! Everyone knew discipline would come your way if required. My mother frequently reflected how well she dealt with my older brother Christopher who, while very bright, could also be 'a handful' She demonstrated great tolerance with him, even though he spent a fair bit of time in her office Haha. She was a classy lady, and yes, always delightful to run into her in later years. Her memory for names and family unit was impressive! A life well lived, and brought so much to so many. - Posted by: Marie Brock (Former student at St John Brebeuf) on: Aug 19, 2025

  • On behalf of the Wyndels' Family our deepest sympathies to the family and Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. We became friends many years ago during Manitoba Belgian Week. Sister Louise, during her long life, displayed empathy and kindness towards others. In 2000, after Belgian Week, she assisted me with records and letters in completing a biography of her father: Joseph G. Van Belleghem, A Biography. It was published in both official languages. The book was presented to her mother Clara, Joseph's widow, on her 100th anniversary on February 29, 2004. Each year at Christmas and on special occasions Sister Louise and I exchanged greetings. - Posted by: James Wyndels (relative) on: Aug 11, 2025

  • Sister Louise was my Principal at St. John Brebeuf School. She was strict but fair, very kind and when she laughed her eyes twinkled. She treated everyone with respect and made it clear we were to do the same. I enjoyed running into her in later years; she had an incredible memory for names and had a keen interest in how you were doing. She was a very special person and will be missed by many. Rest in peace Sister. - Posted by: Madeleine Frost (Former Student) on: Aug 11, 2025

  • Our heartfelt condolences to all who were blessed to have Sister Louise in their lives. Our mother (Cecile Van Belleghem) spoke of her often and we were so happy to have met her. I was privileged to receive a phone call from Sister Louise after our mother passed. The Van Belleghem family was truly a wonderful one and I was blessed to share our family history with her. May she rest in peace and Sister Louise will always be in our thoughts and prayers. ❤️ - Posted by: Diane Beaudette and sisters (Sister Louise was our mother’s cousin) on: Aug 09, 2025

  • Rest in peace with the Lord, dear Sister Louise. I have known her since she was my principal at St. John Brebeuf Elementary School, a long time ago now. We reconnected over the years, and I dropped by for a quick visit with her and Sister Pat last fall. Will miss her! - Posted by: Tracey Hamin (Friend) on: Aug 09, 2025

  • Our sincerest Condolences to the Van Belleghem family. We got to know Sr Louise through our mutual involvement in the Belgian Club. She always attended the special events at the Club. She was also very proud of her Belgian Heritage. We will keep found memories of her always.
