It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Verna McConechy (Jackson) at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Marjorie was born May 18, 1937, in MacGregor, MB to Vernon & Patricia Jackson (Chalmers), the third oldest child of eight.
Marjorie attended school in Justice, Ingelow & Carberry. She started her first job at the Golden Gate Café on Princess Avenue as a waitress.
Marjorie met and married John in 1956. Together they made their home in Brandon where they raised five children. Marjorie started off as a stay-at-home Mom and took in many foster children.
Later, she went on to work at Gene’s Upholstery for many years where she re-upholstered vehicle seat covers, furniture, etc.
Marj & John re-located to the farm southwest of Brandon, where they started their own business – Windy Acres Upholstery & Service Shop. Working together, Marj continued with her upholstering while John worked as a mechanic for the surrounding community.
After her children were grown, Marjorie fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. With the title of RN, she started work at the Brandon General Hospital as well as personal care homes in Brandon and Souris. Marjorie decided to take her nursing a step further and moved to Mohall, North Dakota where she spent a few years before moving onto Bottineau, North Dakota.
Marjorie then went a bit further and moved to Abilene, Texas. With her extensive knowledge and expertise, she landed a job as charge nurse. Because of diminishing hours, Marjorie decided to move on once more to Corpus Christi, Texas working at Christus Spohn Shoreline hospital. With her continuing education, she started administering chemotherapy & later became an IV nurse. When colleagues couldn’t manage to start an IV, Marj was the nurse to call! One stick and it was in!! She spent the rest of her nursing career in Corpus Christi until she retired in Mathis, Texas. She was extremely proud of her nursing career as this was one of the biggest accomplishments of her life in addition to raising her children and she finally had something to call her own.
Throughout her nursing career, Marj and John went on many trips exploring the US to places like San Antonio, South Padre Island, New Orleans and Florida to name a few, as well as Mexico and Hawaii. She went on numerous trips with her children and grandchildren and welcomed them for holidays and a visit to Texas. Marjorie made her final move back to Brandon in 2014 where she spent her final days!
Marjorie has left many wonderful memories and touched so many hearts.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband John in 2004; parents Vernon and Patricia Jackson; sisters Marion (Bill) Antonshuk, Eileen Schrober and Ruth (Leonard) Kline; brother Fred; sister-in-law Edith (Bill) Earley and Jean (Frank) English and brothers-in-law Kelly Hudson and Ed Ames.
Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by her five children, George (Brooke Timpson) of Edmonton, AB, Kathleen of Brandon, MB, Susan Ferron of Sechelt, BC, Robert (Shelley) of Silverton, BC and James (Tracy) of Brandon. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jody (Michelle) of Neepawa, MB, Travis (Andrea Lagasse) of Winnipeg and Cameron and Kaitie of Edmonton, AB; great-grandchildren, Taryn (Myles Graham) of Plumus, MB and Maggie, Brooklyn and Raleigh of Ste. Agathe, MB; sisters Myrtle Hudson and Carol Ames, both of Brandon; brother Lionel (Edna) of Crossfield, AB; sister-in-law Cindy Jackson of North Cypress and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We also mustn’t forget her beloved kitty, Rascal!!
A Celebration of Life will take place at Riverheights Terrace – Activity Room, 4525 Victoria Ave., Brandon on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m.
Because of Marjorie’s immense love for animals, donations in her memory may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6.
