NOEL EUGENE LATOUR

Thursday, December 13, 1956 - Tuesday, July 29, 2025

Born in St. Pierre, Manitoba (now known as St. Pierre Jolys).

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Noël Eugene Latour - predeceased by his parents, Nora May Latour (nee Brennan) and Eugene Denis Latour.

Noël spent his final weekend surrounded by family in Winnipeg. It was a time of laughter, music, and shared stories - precious moments that meant the world to him. Sadly, he had a heart attack on the plane on the way home and passed peacefully shortly thereafter in Thunder Bay - his heart full from time well-spent.

Noël was a devoted brother to Robert (Tiffanny), Dan (Charlene), Lorena (Jim), and Louise, and a proud father to Richard (Gabriella), Dan (Amelia), Derek (Makayla), and is remembered by their mother, Patricia Latour (nee Pearson). He was also the proud grandfather to Leonardo. Noel had many health challenges over the past few years and through it all his devoted and loving partner Carol Patterson was by his side supporting and loving him.

Noël had an extraordinary gift for connection. He made fast friends wherever he went - at community events, behind the bench at his boy’s hockey or soccer, volunteering at Cubs/Scouts or during his many years as a respected federal civil servant in Customs and later in training for various government departments. Retirement, which he often called “the best job I never had,” gave him the freedom to dive into the things he loved most: cars, music, faith, and friendship.

A devoted member of Glen Cairn United Church, Noel was active in the choir and contributed enthusiastically to various committees including pastoral care and fundraising. Outside the church, he was an avid member of Rennsport, a Porsche club that gave him great joy and camaraderie.

Noël adored his dogs, George and Gracie. He had a particular pride in keeping his cars gleaming. But more than anything, he cherished the people in his life. He had an easy warmth and a generous heart, and whether he was reconnecting with former colleagues or chatting with strangers at the grocery store, he believed in the importance of showing up for people.

While Noël made friends wherever he went, he also had many long-standing, deeply treasured friendships - friends who became like family, and who meant the world to him. In particular was his friend Doug Lochhead where there was a special bond between the two of them for the past 52 years. They travelled, had fun and were always there for each other. He will be deeply missed by Doug.

Noël’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and deep connection. He will be missed more than words can say by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Cairn United Church, 140 Abbeyhill Drive, Ottawa, ON K2L 1H5, on Sunday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Noël’s memory may be made to Glen Cairn United Church or a local community organization close to your heart.
