Hazel Ivy Olson, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg, MB.
Born in Winnipeg on February 27, 1933, to Ruth and Norman Graham, Hazel grew up with a strong sense of family and community. On September 11, 1954, she married the love of her life, Albert Olson, and together they raised three children: Mark Olson (Leslie), Brenda Beck (Chris), and Diane Olson.
Hazel was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She took immense joy in her role as “Grandma,” creating countless memories with her grandchildren, Kevin, Laura, Drew (deceased), Alana, Ryan and Connor, and her six great-grandchildren. Her love, warmth, and unwavering support will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Dedicated to her community, Hazel volunteered as an Optimist, Candy Striper at the Grace Hospital as well as canvassed for several charities, where she made lifelong friendships through her service. She was a lifetime member of Breezy Bend Country Club and an avid golfer, proudly serving as President of the Women’s Golf League. Her enthusiasm for sports also carried into curling, where she was an active member and President of the Women’s League at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club.
In her early career, Hazel worked with MTS before choosing to stay home to raise her family, a role she considered her greatest calling. Known for her wonderful cooking and baking, she created a welcoming home where friends and family always felt cared for.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa for their kindness, compassion, and efforts in making Hazel’s stay as comfortable as possible.
A private celebration of Hazel’s life will be held with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Hazel will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and deep love for her family. She will be profoundly missed and forever treasured in our hearts.
