Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2025.
Born October 8, 1949, in London, ON, Cathy spent most of her life in Ottawa. She was predeceased by her father John Alexander (Sandy) Whitton, her mother Beth Whitton (nee McRae) and sister Anna Whitton, and is survived by relatives in Ontario, Manitoba and the United States.
As a social worker with Children’s Aid Society, Cathy had a long successful career being a devoted advocate for children.
Cathy had an enormous passion for life. She travelled the world, loved theatre, was an avid reader, knew her cars, enjoyed photography and valued her time at her retreat near Westport. Cathy approached everything with curiosity, enthusiasm and commitment, gathering many friends along the way. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor), Ottawa, Ontario on Thursday, September 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service with Cathy then being laid to rest at Beechwood Cemetery. If you would like, you are welcome to attend wearing something with Cathy’s favourite colour - pink.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either the National Arts Centre Home and School Learning Programmes or the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa Cookie Jar Programme.
