Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNA DAWN SPENCER
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Dawn Spencer (nee Stewart) on September 6, 2025, at the age of 63, following a 16-year battle with lymphoma and a final fight with esophageal cancer.
Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Ivy, and her brother Robert.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Jason and dear friends, Tara, Donna, Shawn and Larry, Callum and Elizabeth, Judy, Pat and Deb, Mike and Shelly, Rose and Audrey; as well as her beloved pets, Tigger, Lexi, and Zeus.
Lorna graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate Institute in 1979 and worked in x-ray files at Health Sciences Centre during the 1980s. She earned her nursing degree in 1994 and served as a dedicated nurse at Victoria Hospital from 2000 until her retirement in 2020.
Lorna was proud of her Scottish heritage which enabled her love of highland dancing. She participated and volunteered with Folklorama in her younger years, and a proud champion baton twirler in her youth. Lorna was also a passionate Winnipeg sports fan - cheering on the Blue Bombers (especially on Banjo Bowl Saturday), the Jets, and the Goldeyes. She loved spending summers at our cottage on Brereton Lake, and enjoyed many winter vacations in Cuba and Mexico, with a dream trip to Hawaii in 2011.
Although she had chronic health issues Lorna always had a positive outlook. She enjoyed walking her dogs until her health conditions no longer allowed her to do so and if not for city by-laws she would have had a pet masked bandit a.k.a. a raccoon.
Special thanks to Dr. Banerji and the remarkable staff at Health Sciences Centre CancerCare for their years of expert and compassionate treatment. Deep gratitude also goes to Dr. Amith Kumar Pendurthi and the staff at Grace Hospital, who went above and beyond to ensure Lorna’s final moments were filled with comfort and dignity.
Lorna was a devoted animal lover and a committed supporter of those in need. She regularly donated clothing and water to Siloam Mission, Centre Flavie and supported the Humane Society.
In accordance with her wishes a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Lorna’s wishes were to have donations to either the Winnipeg Humane Society or Siloam Mission, two causes close to her heart.
