LOUISE ELLISON

(nee FREDETTE)

May 17, 1929 - September 11, 2025

Mom left us on September 11, at the age of 96, her heart filled with the love of her family, ready to be reunited with Dad.

Louise was predeceased by her husband Eric and eldest son John, parents Josaphat and Dorothee Fredette; siblings Lucien (Alice), Freddie (Jim), Denise, Cecile (Gustave), Paul (Fern), Joe (Carol), Annette (Garth, Wayne), Victor (Yvonne).

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Barb (Andy), son James (Cindy); grandchildren Mark (Ashton), Kevin (Molly), Thomas, Eric, Matthew (Natasha), Paige; great-grandchildren Blair and Miles; sister Ida (Aime); sister-in-laws Margueritte and Astrid, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Louise worked at Ashdowns department store where she met Eric, the love of her life. They were married in August 1958, and settled down right away, having John the following summer. Barb and James completed the family. Eric and Louise were fortunate enough to be married for 65 years.

Louise was known by many names; daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, Nana and her personal favourite, as it was given to her by her first great-grandchild…Big Nana. Louise was the matriarch of the family for a very long time, a position she did not take lightly. She was the consummate organizer and was sure to have all the details in place for every event, so that everyone was included. To her, family was everything, and she had a very generous and forgiving soul.

Louise loved to entertain. Our childhood home saw many a great gathering where good food, crazy games and lots of laughter were always on the menu. She was a terrific cook and was well known for her lasagna, meatballs and of course, her amazing butter tarts! She would start baking and freezing desserts in September, though not all the butter tarts made it to the Christmas table thanks to John, James and nephew Ken. Louise always looked forward to the next gathering with friends and family, where her beautiful complexion and appearance were always a great source of pride for her.

In addition to being a stay-at-home Mom, she taught herself how to sew and ran a very successful business out of the house, making drapes for 35 years. Louise and Eric enjoyed many wonderful decades at the cottage in Grand Beach and were involved in the Lord Selkirk Boy Scout Pipe Band where they made lifelong friends and memories.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Wendy at Comfort Keepers, the nursing staff at Concordia Hospital 3 West, particularly Joanne, as well as the nurses on 1 South for their compassionate care.

Service to be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 341 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg. Reception to follow.

Rest in peace Mom, knowing that you leave behind a legacy of love and family.
