GORDON ALVAVE
It is with great sadness that Gordon passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2025, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his son Graham and grandson David.
Gordon prized his many fulfilling and long frendships. He was passionate about art, social advocacy, helping others, and being with his family. In his later years, it brought him such joy to meet and spend time with his grandson. He is greatly missed.
A ceremony will be held at Canadian Menonite University on October 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.

Like Eugene whose entry is above, who I remember as a colleague at Stony Mountain Penitentiary, where Gordon was a classification officer and social worker, I can vouch that Gordon Alvare was indeed a very caring, involved, kind and always present person, both professionally and personally. He was a close friend of myself and my late wife Jo-Anne and helped me in my personal and professional development as I grew into becoming a clinical psychologist. He was indeed a man born way before his time. And we still have an appointment, Gordon and I, even though he has passed, as we agreed to meet again in Heaven when my time comes. - Posted by: Dr. Bruce Hutchison (friend and colleague) on: Oct 23, 2025

I knew Gordon since the early 70s working together in Corrections at Stony Mountain. He was soft spoken and kind, and it was always a pleasure to cross paths with him in his different roles, including serving as officiant at our marriage. He made significant contributions in caring for others in all his work roles and will be missed. - Posted by: Eugene Gubernachuk (Friend, work colleague) on: Oct 18, 2025

I knew Gordon years ago. His picture looks exactly like the person he was. Friendly, kind, and such a sweet person. I can just imagine how grateful he was for the love from his son and grandson. What a pleasure that child must have given him. - Posted by: marianne cherniuk (classmate) on: Oct 06, 2025
