It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Andrew Prodanuk on September 29, 2025.
Brian has been reunited with his mother Bernice, but he leaves behind his dad Andrew, brother Gary (Rosemary), his former wife and friend Joan, daughters Janice (Robert), Lesley (Ryan), Erin (Michael), and a whole squad of grandkids: Sydne, Avery, Jack, Cole, Gabriel, and Eiley.
Born in Winnipeg on March 7, 1946, Brian grew up in the West End where he mastered the fine art of football and hockey at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. His secret talent, however, was pool - he could talk you into a game he already won, and you’d thank him for the lesson. After kicking off his career at CN, Brian moved his family to Saskatoon before returning to Winnipeg like a true Winnipegger does.
He was a true dad coach, whether it was t-ball, soccer, or baseball - he was all in for his girls. Brian was also a dedicated member of the Dakota Community Center and a curling enthusiast who even served as president of the Thistle Club (yes, you could say he was pretty “cool” on the ice).
When he wasn’t busy winning at curling or pool, Brian could be found tending to his garden, golfing, traveling, or socializing - because let’s face it, the guy knew how to live. He was the go-to for his girls, always ready for a pick-up, a laugh, or a lesson on changing a tire. And as a grandpa, he was top-notch - teaching his grandkids how to golf and truly enjoy life, one tire change at a time.
An avid sports fan, Brian was loyal to the Winnipeg Jets, collected hockey cards like a champ, and made sure no one forgot about the finer details of the game. He had a heart of gold, a spirit of adventure, and a youthful energy that inspired everyone around him.
So, let’s raise a glass to Brian: a man who made life better just by being in it, who’s probably somewhere now trying to convince someone to join him for a game of pool (that he’s already won). Cheers to you, Brian - you’ll always be with us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I was saddened to learn about Brian’s passing especially since it occurred less than a month of our mutual friend Ken Chorney’s passing. The friendship of the three of us dates back to the 1960s. Brian and Joan were God parents to my daughter Cheryl. Reading the obituary brought back many happy memories of many good times. My sincere Condolences to Joan and the entire Prodanuk Family. - Posted by: Fred Miller (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2025
