Melvin (Mel) Blaine Weeks, 82, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025. Mel was born in Gilbert Plains, MB, to Jack and Willa Weeks on November 24, 1942.
Mel is survived and missed by his loving wife Judy of 44 years and his four children, Lori (Jim), Craig (Scott), Rob (Jen), and Sean (Shauna). Forever cherished and remembered by his seven grandchildren, Leah (Bryce), Ryan (Neilly), Tyler (Lauren), Jenna, Kaylee, Grace, Ben and his great-grandson, Henry, as well as his sisters Donna (Bob) and Brenda. He was predeceased by his father, Jack, his mother, Willa, and his sister, Sheila. He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Mary, sister-in-law, Deanna, brothe-in-law, Colin, and brother-in-law, Wayne.
Those who knew Mel will remember him for his kindness to everyone he encountered.
Mel had many hobbies over the years. As a young man he played goalie in hockey and enjoyed playing football, and baseball as well. As he grew older, he loved to golf in the summer and was an avid curler for many years each winter. He enjoyed watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Minnesota Vikings, and was a big Winnipeg Jets fan. He always enjoyed an occasional Rye and Coke while cheering for his teams.
Mel also had an amazing ability to work with his hands and build and fix almost anything and everything. Whether it be building a garage, a doghouse for the beloved family dog Jaika, fixing any and all household appliances, re-building a motor, a transmission or an entire classic car, he really could and would do it all. There was no problem or project he couldn’t figure out.
Mel also enjoyed being outside in his yard to tend to his garden, flowers, and lawn. He took great pride in having the “greenest” grass on the block.
Mel and his wife Judy also very much enjoyed hosting friends and family over to their house for various activities over the years whether it be post-golf tournament festivities, dinner parties or more than a few drinks on the back deck. Everyone was always welcome at their home.
Mel spent most of his professional career working in the insurance industry in Winnipeg, MB for over 40 years. During that time, he worked as an insurance consultant for many companies in the insurance industry (Reed Stenhouse and AON to name a couple). He eventually started his own successful Employee Benefits Consulting firm in the 1980s and owned and operated the company until he eventually retired in the early 2000s.
While Mel accomplished many things over the years both professionally and personally, his greatest joy was watching his family grow up, especially his grandchildren. He was known to them affectionately as Grandpa/Papa, and he really was the best Grandpa/Papa. Unfortunately, he was not always able to physically make it to watch all their individual activities but hearing about all their accomplishments, games, and activities was what he truly lived for and gave him great joy.
We would like to extend an invitation to family and friends who knew and loved Mel to a private Celebration of Life to be held on October 10, 2025. Please contact seanpmacbg0721@gmail.com for additional details.
Mel was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - 20 years ago. He worked courageously during that time to live and enjoy life to the best of his abilities. Mel never complained about his health issues or let them get him down. Mel’s last couple of months were spent at Grace Hospital, Seven Oaks Hospital, and Riverview Health Centre. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at all these facilities with special mention to Dr. L. J. Blom and all the nurses and staff at Riverview Health Centre who took care of Mel during the final days of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Riverview Health Centre Foundation (www.rhcf.mb.ca).

I have had many great memories with MEL from fishing trips, golfing, and sportsman dinners or just sitting on the front steps in the evenings with him and Judy having a drink with them and the neighbors. - Posted by: Glenn Steitzer (Family Friend) on: Oct 04, 2025

I met Mel through his services to New Flyer Ind. Mel had a great smile and always dropped by my office for a friendly chat. We had never discussed our addresses and we later discovered we lived around the corner from one another on Mutchmor. My sincere Condolences to the family and may God Bless and comfort you at this sad time. Ron Campbell. - Posted by: Ron Campbell (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2025
