MARK HARVEY DOERKSEN
We are sad to announce the passing of Mark Harvey Doerksen at age 73 after a brief, serious illness.
Mark is survived by his wife of 46 years and 11 months, Merrill Elaine Berg and his beloved fur family: Emmy, Goldy, and Little Guy as well as his feathered friends who enjoyed our bird feeders year round or during migration season.
Mark’s immediate family: his sisters, Lisa Hunchak and Arlene Doerksen - Scott both of Winnipeg; his brothers, Kurt Doerksen of Winnipeg and Brett Doerksen of Alberta; his nephews, Brent Hunchak (Adiene), David Doerksen; Shane Scott, and niece, Taryn Scott all of Winnipeg.
Mark’s extended family: nephews, Aren Ludlow and Sam Besley, of British Columbia and niece, Nora Ludlow of Quebec; brother-in-law, Dr. Greg Berg and nephews, Alexei Berg, Adam Berg, and Andrew Berg all of Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Henry (Heinrich) Doerksen and Agnes (Agatha) (Krahn) Doerksen; brother-in-law, Len Hunchak of Winnipeg; and sister-in-law, Dr. Karen Berg, formerly of Salt Spring Island, BC.
Mark had recently retired from a life long career as a gasfitter with Combustion Equipment, Mikkelsen Coward, and ABCO. He enjoyed the companionship of the many members of our fur family; hiking and skiing at Birds Hill Park; tasty French fries at Kenora; swimming at West Hawk Lake; walking our dogs at the dog park; working on projects around the house; having a friendly chat with neighbours and a visit with their dogs as he worked outside; and tending to our garden, especially enjoying vegetables, roses, lilies, geraniums, gerbera daisies, and dahlias.
Mark will be missed.
In accordance with Mark’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no public service will be held.
If you wish, you may consider a donation in Mark’s memory to: The Winnipeg Humane Society; Cancer Care of Manitoba; or The Kidney Foundation of Manitoba
