It is with immeasurable sadness and utter heartbreak that I announce the sudden death of my husband and life partner, Augie Cabral. He was absolutely the most charismatic and fun-loving person and will be missed by so many.
Augie was born on February 22, 1954, in Santo Espirito, Santa Maria, Açores, Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in January of 1964 with his parents and siblings and resided in Winnipeg for the rest of his life.
In his younger years, Augie went to Pinkham School and Tec Voc for high school, which is where we met and became inseparable. We were both in Theatre and Broadcasting; he was the actor, and I was the make-up gal, truly a perfect match. We graduated in 1974 and were married on August 7, 1976, so many happy years together, 49 years married was simply not enough.
Augie worked for over 34 years at Canada Post from 1976 to 2010 and had so many friends there as well. Some of the stories he told me about practical jokes he and others played there were hilarious.
Augie enjoyed so many things. Travel was a big part of our lives, but he also enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating, and spending time with so many of our friends who are too numerous to mention. Whether it was through regular life at home, at the cottage, or abroad while travelling, he absolutely drew people to him. He was a wonderful husband, friend, and special human being. He would offer help to anyone in need. He was always joking and being the life of the party.
He touched the lives of so many people, and he will be greatly missed.
Augie was predeceased by his parents, Manuel (2012) and Maria (2013), mother-in-law Joan Stevenson (2024), sister-in-law Janice Cabral (2012), and brother-in-law George Deak (2021).
Augie leaves so many to grieve and mourn his passing, his wife Brenda; brother Tony (Silvia); sister Maria; sisters-in-law, Corinne Fix, and Karen Dobranski (Doug); brother-in-law Ray Stevenson Jr. (Louise); stepfather-in-law Ray Stevenson Sr.; nieces, Lisa Butler (Sean), Jennifer Cabral (Max, great-nephew Felix Ewaschuk), Erika Deak (Joe), Jessica Deak (Brandon), and Katelyn Dobranski (Harrison); nephews, Thomas Stevenson, Dylan Stevenson (Makayla, great-nephew Bennett) and Justin McConnell (Kayla, Hadley); not to mention all the many other relatives and friends near and far.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield Street at McBey Ave.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

My sincere heartfelt condolences to Angie’s wife Brenda and his family. I worked with Augie for many years and always laughed at his jokes. He was funny, comical and made our work days pass by quicker. He was kind and will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Augie! Gone far too soon! - Posted by: Judy Shkolny (Co worker) on: Oct 11, 2025
