GEORGE SARANTIDIS
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of George Sarantidis, who departed this life at the age of 76.
Born in Athens, Greece, in 1949, George embraced life with energy, humour, and faith. In 1967, he immigrated to Canada, seeking opportunity and a new beginning. One year later, in 1968, he married the love of his life, Sophia, who would remain his devoted partner through every joy and every challenge. Together, they raised two sons, Costa and John (Nancy), and were blessed with two beloved grandchildren, Ambrose and George, who brought light and joy to his later years.
George was a gifted hairstylist whose creativity and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who sat in his chair. Alongside Sophia, he built and managed a successful chain of hair salons. Customers adored him not only for his talent but for his larger-than-life personality and the way he made each person feel special. His sense of humour was legendary - his quick wit, playful jokes, and endless “shenanigans” will be retold for years to come by family, friends, and the many nephews and nieces who adored him.
George loved to travel and especially enjoyed returning to Greece over the years, where he reconnected with his roots and embraced his heritage. Wherever George went, there was always an adventure to be had. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable ones, filling every experience with laughter and his amazing humour that made time with him truly memorable.
In the prime of his life, George was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a challenge he faced with extraordinary courage and faith. With the tireless support and love of Sophia, he was able to live comfortably at home, surrounded by the warmth of family. The way he carried himself throughout his illness was an inspiration to all who knew him - he faced each day with dignity, never giving in to self-pity, and showed remarkable strength in the face of suffering. His perseverance and unshakable trust in God remain a lasting testament to his character.
George is predeceased by his beloved parents, Konstantine and Angela, his sisters Eleftheria and Evaggelitsa, and his brother Peter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sophia, his children and grandchildren, and his cherished sister Nitsa (Ted), along with countless nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold his memory close. George will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, a cherished brother, and a friend to all. His legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
From your loving wife and sons, we will carry a hole in our hearts for as long as we live, and your absence will always be felt with pain. Yet we take comfort in knowing that you can finally rest now - you gave everything, you endured so much, and you truly deserve your peace.
May his memory be eternal.
A private funeral was held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Winnipeg.
