MAYLENE SHIRLEY CANCILLA

It is with great sadness and the deepest of sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nama and Great-Nama, Maylene Cancilla, who passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the age of 88 years.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Adrian, her parents, Arthur and Alice Janoske, and her brother, Nelson.

Mom is survived by her two children, Karen, Darren (Franca), and family, two grandchildren, Courtney (Scott), and Mason (Kate) and two great-grandchildren (Oliver and Wren.)

Mom was born August 22, 1937, on the family homestead in Morris, Manitoba. Mom was raised with the value that hard work was how you survived. The family later relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she completed school and then went to work at Winnipeg Hydro.

Maylene met Adrian in 1955 at a social and they became inseparable. Maylene married her soulmate October 3, 1959, and together raised two children. Growing up, Mom was there for us whether we needed help with our homework, or driving us to swimming lessons, or just needing a shoulder to cry on. Mom was pivotal in Dad’s success, as she took care of everything at home which allowed him to focus on establishing his business to be able to provide for his family. Eventually Dad retired which allowed him to be at home. Those were some of their best years. Time was spent travelling and taking cruises, especially with their children and later their grandchildren. Family always came first and was above all else to Mom, a value she instilled in all of those around her.

She was the heart and soul of our family and always put the needs of her family before her own. Mom’s greatest joy in life were her grandchildren, she loved them unconditionally, she was so proud of them, and they enriched her life immensely. Then came her great-grandchildren and that was another level of love from Mom.

Mom was known for her hearty, infectious laughter and kind, warm heart. Mom’s love and kindness went beyond her immediate family which extended to relatives and friends, young and old. Anyone who ever met Mom would surely never forget her. She was an incredible lady, one whose honesty and straight forward approach to people in life was greatly appreciated. Mom would always make everyone feel welcome, loved, and supported and was truly an inspiration to all those who had gotten the privilege to know her.

In keeping with her wishes, a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with viewing to begin at 10:00 a.m., at the Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

Mom will be greatly missed, and we will never be able to fill the space she leaves behind.

You are at peace, Mom, and

reunited with your honey. We love you.
