JO-ANNE BACCUS
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Jo-Anne Baccus (Sokolowski) on October 6, 2025, at her residence at Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 82 years.
Mom/Jo-Anne, or Jo as she was fondly called, will be lovingly remembered and survived by daughter Nicole (Kevin) Stoddart, son Grant (Claudia), grandchildren Samantha and Marco, sisters Barb and Donna, brothers Rick and Brian, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jo was predeceased by her husband, Bob, and parents John and Isabelle Sokolowski.
Jo was born and lived her entire life in Winnipeg, one of five children growing up in the heart of Winnipeg’s North end when she met her husband Bob and married on September 17, 1966. While her children were of school age, Mom remained a homemaker, followed by a handful of positions as an administrative assistant, most notably, at Sears.
So many words can describe Mom! Like Dad, she was supportive, generous, kind, and proud of everyone around her, but she was also quirky, a tad stubborn, and her dramatic nature always made us laugh! Mom’s loves included gardening, reading the paper, long walks at the park and drives with Dad, and spending time with family and friends. It could also be said that Mom loved cleaning and cooking, since she was fantastic at both!
Her grandchildren meant everything to Jo, and she enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible, especially at the house on Bayne Crescent, working in the garden, tending to her flowers, or going on drives to Kildonan Park and Half Moon. Mom was always there for her kids and spouses. We were blessed to have been surrounded by Mom and Dad’s endless love, support, work ethic, and selfless nature.
The last few years were challenging and heartbreaking for Mom as she was clinically diagnosed with Lewy body dementia (LBD) in 2018. Losing Dad in 2021 marked the point where dementia overcame Mom and although she was physically here with us, she was never the same after losing her love and primary care-giver. Mom is now at peace, has finally been reunited with Dad, and we hope they spend their eternity together walking through flower gardens.
A celebration of Jo’s life will take place on Friday, October 17, 10:00 a.m., at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard, Winnipeg. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
