ROSE MARLENE TURSKI (MASKIW)

December 31, 1936 - October 12, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Turski (nee Niziol) at the age of 88, on October 12, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital. We would like to extend our gratitude to the nurses and all staff on 4B for their compassion and kindness they extended to Rose, in her final weeks.

Rose was predeceased by her first husband of 45 years, Edward Turski; parents, Andrew and Josephine and her grandson Daryl. Rose, being the youngest child of her family, was the last surviving member of 10 siblings.

She leaves to mourn her passing, husband Jim Maskiw, son Douglas (Christina), daughters, Sharon (Gil), Jayne (Cam), grandchildren, Rosanne, Chelsey, Jennifer, Allison, and Leanne.

Rose was born and raised in Howden, MB. She married Edward Turski in 1955 and raised three children, spending most of her years on the farm. Summers were a busy time; Rose was involved in the growing/harvesting of vegetables for sale as market gardeners, and enjoyed looking after flower beds she planted throughout her property; she loved the great outdoors.

As busy as Rose was with outdoor responsibilities, she always managed to look after her family's needs and provided a strong support system; she dedicated her life to raising her children. She was more than happy to look after her grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose, and she looked forward to their many weekend visits on the farm. Rose's Christmas Eve dinner gatherings were an annual event that all looked forward to. She was a great cook.

Rose was a dedicated member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church helping out where needed, including duties as the church organist. She enjoyed heading out to Whiteshell with Ed for a day or two of fishing, when time allowed. Rose was an animal lover; she helped homeless cats who crossed her path while living in the country and usually, one cat or another, would end up becoming part of her family. She was also known for taking in a stray dog or two, providing them with a good home.

In 2009 Rose married Jim Maskiw and settled down in south Winnipeg near family. They enjoyed trips to Grand Forks for quick getaways and winter vacations in Mexico and Dominican Republic. Their love of dancing took them to many venues where she and Jim danced the night away. In her later years she spent her leisure time working on crafts, sewing, and puzzles.

Rose will be greatly missed by all her family and she will forever be in our hearts.

The funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coutu Funeral Home on 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Following the service and reception, the interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, 973 Red River Drive, Howden, Manitoba.
