ELSIE SMEALL

August 22, 1928 - October 9, 2025

Our family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunty, and friend, Elsie Smeall (nee. Rosin) at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Elsie was born in, and lived in Winnipeg all her life, the daughter of Gustav and Wilhelmina Rosin. Elsie married the love of her life, Ogle H. R. Smeall on July 12, 1947, and together they raised their family. They enjoyed their cottage for many years at Sandy Hook on Lake Winnipeg. Mom and Dad shared 65 happy years of marriage until Dad passed away in December 2012.

Elsie was the mother of her loving daughters, Evelyn Harrison (Kevin), and Deborah Smyth (Todd), and her son Allan Smeall.

In addition to her children, Elsie treasured her grandchildren, their spouses, and their children;

Heather Blewett (Matt and daughter Madelyn); Bonnie Johnston (Eric and daughter Scarlett); Nicholas Sader (Mackenzie, and son Jack and daughter Sophia); Lucas Sader (Dallas and son Vance); and Levi Sader (Julianna).

Elsie was predeceased by her siblings Paul, Bill, Carl, Frieda, Herman, Archie, and Evelyn.

Aunty Elsie had many nieces and nephews, all of whom brought her great pride and joy.

Elsie’s life included a love of music and singing, especially in the Lutheran Church. As a young woman, she sang as soloist, and later in life she served many years as Director of the Senior Choir at Hope Lutheran Church. She was also a talented seamstress, and an avid fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Elsie’s final years were spent living at The BrightWater Senior Living of Tuxedo. Our family would like to thank the competent, dedicated and friendly staff who enabled Mom to live a happy and independent life into her 97th year. As well, we thank the staff at The Grace Hospital for their medical care during Mom’s last days.

A Celebration of Elsie Smeall’s Life will be held in the future, at a time yet to be determined.
