John Stefkovic

February 2, 1938 – October 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Stefkovic on October 11, 2025, at Kin Place in Oakbank at 87 years of age.

John is survived by his daughters, Gladys Stefkovic, Grace Bazinet (Douglas), and Phyllis Cook (Garth); grandchildren Danielle, Bradley, Amanda, Kelly; and great-grandchildren Quintin, Wrenn, Brooklyn, Anna and Adam. John was predeceased by his wife, Victoire; his parents, Imrich and Mary; his brother, Emil; and his son-in-law Maynard Bell.

John was born in Dugald, Manitoba, mere months after his parents and their extended family immigrated from Slovakia. He married the love of his life, Victoire, on October 10, 1959.

John worked his entire life on the family farm in Dugald and farmed right up to the day he had a stroke in November 2022. John had a keen eye to identify quality cattle and was recognized as an official judge with Holstein Canada. He enjoyed exhibiting his prize-winning pedigreed cattle at the local fairs in Manitoba and across Western Canada. John and his daughters also participated in 4-H, passing on his passion for showing quality cattle to his daughters. Together, John and Victoire overcame adversity and rebuilt their farm after a tragic barn fire destroyed their prized herd, John and Victoire sold the dairy farm to his grandson Bradley in 2015, but still came every day to help on the farm.

As a young man John, was active in the local community and enjoyed playing baseball. Later in life John and Victoire became passionate for fishing and would frequently drive hours away to go with family and friends. John was an avid hunter and an active member of several Wildlife Clubs including having a Manitoba record book Buck. Dad loved his family. In his last few years, he loved playing bingo at Kin Place. Whenever he would win, he could choose a chocolate bar for himself or a toy to give to his great-grandchildren, he always chose the stuffed toys.

Dad, Grandpa, Great-grampa,

we will miss you.

Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Kin Place, Oakbank, for taking care of John over the past few years.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday October 21, 2025 at Green Acres Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
