KRISTIAN LARSEN

December 28, 1925 – October 9, 2025

Kristian was born to Kirstina and Axel Larsen in Bording Denmark on December 28, 1925. Kristian passed away on October 9, 2025, at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon Manitoba.

Kristian was 2 months short of his 100th birthday. At 22 ½ years old Kristian left a teaching position at a Denmark Orphanage and immigrated to Canada. He wanted to take a couple of years to travel, explore and to practice the English language. (a young man’s dream). Kris became quite fond of the wide-open spaces and the friendly people in Canada. He decided to make Canada his newfound home.

Kristian started out his career as a bush pilot in British Columbia. Over the years he worked in Logging and Sawmilling, Construction, and the Farming Industries. He eventually returned to Construction and started Larsen’s Construction where he built and renovated homes. Kristian held his pilot’s license for over 50 years. He enjoyed flying his own aircraft throughout Western Canada and into various parts of the USA. He also belonged to Search and Rescue Clubs in Prince George, and in Victoria B.C. While in Manitoba he continued as a pilot for CASARA Civil Search and Rescue Association under the RCAF wing of Trenton, Ontario. Kristian was a member of the Sons of Norway, Eidsvold Lodge 53, in Victoria, British Columbia. He was also a member of the Brandon Flying Club and Commonwealth Air Museum.

Kristian was predeceased by his wife of 41 years Helen. He is survived by his son Bruce, daughter Barbara (son in law Terry) Mueller, grandsons Christopher (Tamika), David (Amanda), great-grandsons Kayden, Benjamin, William, and great-granddaughter Nora.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kris can be sent to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba - 1379 Kenaston Boulavard, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5 or Brandon Humane Society – 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6.

Service will be held at Memories Chapel 330-18th Street Brandon MB, on Tuesday October 28, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., interment to take place at Rosewood Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have many family memories of this active Uncle over decades. Uncle Kris lived to his hundredth year on this earth, as had one of his relatives. Visiting him and Aunt Helen in their comfortable home in Brandon, a flower garden that I loved, his close friendship with my father, Edgar Morrow, and their last words together the day my dad passed. Together, they formed a few forays into their own form of political involvement. Builders and fixers, never idle, always contributing. In the early years of marriage to Aunt Helen, he lived on the ocean coast. He took me out onto the ocean to go fishing. Living into his hundredth year, he required care, but Sundays, he dressed up for dinner, looking spiffy in his best black Sunday suit. The United Church was important to him, and he did visiting to others before he was unwell. A vivid memory I have is the story about living in Denmark as a teenager, during the Nazi occupation. Uncle Kris Larsen was courageous, operating a radio that would have caused his death had he been discovered, then venturing into a new country, and creating a life with family, married to one of my Aunt Helen, raising their children, Bruce and Barbara. They were very special people to me, and Uncle Kris prepared tea when I came, told me how he believed he had healed his cancer by eating asparagus every day ad he had learned from another friend who did that. The knows? Maybe that one green vegetable worked? But Uncle Kris was always full of stories. And he modeled contribution to others as well as an adventurous spirit. . - Posted by: Judy Morrow (niece) on: Oct 29, 2025
