Ina Potenza

(nee GATTO)

April 20, 1966 – October 26, 2025

After a short illness, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Ina. Peacefully surrounded with the love and affection of her cherished family, Ina passed away on October 26, 2025, at the young age of 59 years. She leaves behind her loving husband Dan, their children Daniel and Larissa (Brendan), brother Frank Gatto (Liisa) and sister Susie Beaucage, and her mother-in-law, Dina Potenza.

She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Vince and Cara Potenza, nieces and nephews, including her beloved great nieces and nephews, in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

Ina is reunited in heaven with her parents Ernesto and Teresa Gatto; brother Diego Gatto; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Arlene Gatto; and her father-in-law Pasquale Potenza

Ina was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She moved to Winnipeg in 1989, where shortly thereafter met the love of her life, Dan. She knew he was the one right from the beginning. They were married in 1993 in beautiful Thunder Bay and have been inseparable ever since. Life changed again after the birth of their children Daniel and Larissa, whom she has loved and cherished more than anything in this life. Her immediate and surrounding family was the most important thing to her.

Ina had a passion and zest for life. It was never more evident during family gatherings, holidays, and social events. They were always well planned and centred around food and family.

Her laughter and smile were contagious. She made everyone around her feel comfortable and welcomed. It is how she got along so well with friends and coworkers alike. She was always ready to support those around her, with a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to listen with. A true friend and confidant.

Ina loved traveling, especially to visit family in Thunder Bay. She also looked forward to trips to our Florida home, where she has made numerous friendships and connections over the years. We also travelled to Italy many times and those trips were unforgettable.

Unfortunately, we do not choose when or how we die, but Ina chose how to live life. It was with passion and purpose. And most importantly, with love. Her leaving us has left a void that can never be filled or replaced. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her and loved her.

We would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of HSC in GH 4, and the wonderful and compassionate care of the amazing staff at Riverview Health Centre.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, condolences/viewing at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Father Michael Savarimuthu presiding with Rev. Father Sam Argenziano co-celebrant. Livestream: https://youtube.com/live/lTF1gAodnPk?feature=share

  • Dan, and Larissa, Daniel, Dina and family I have many wonderful memories of Ina at countless events in the past where her smile would light up a room. Laughter and joy in each other conversations to lighten up lives of others. Especially her compassion for me when l was a single mom without any judgement instead encouraging us to be happy. I know grieving is like waves 🌊 of different emotions and loss of her being physically present will be difficult times. Our culture we offer tobacco to her journey and Creator to bring peace, love, guidance to navigate through these days to come.
