With sadness we announce the passing of Christina Gladys Henderson (nee Cook) on October 26, 2025, at the age of 77 years.
Christina leaves to mourn her two sons, Christopher (Rachel) and Kelly, her granddaughter Sienna, her sister Elizabeth Cook, her niece Crystal Laborero and husband Sean, and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives from the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, Manitoba.
She was predeceased by her father Adam Cook and mother Violet Quill, brothers, Gordon (Ken), Lawrence, Alec, Charlie, Douglas, Daniel, and sisters, Alice Bourassa and Agnes Munro; all from the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
Prior to settling in Winnipeg for the majority of her life, as a child Christina attended Residential School in Camperville, MB, and then eventually transferring to the Assiniboia Residential School on Academy Road in Winnipeg as a teenager. Despite the church and state's efforts to eradicate the languages and cultures of First Nations during this period, Christina retained her first language of the Swampy Cree dialect.
The family thanks the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department and the Southeast Personal Care Home staff and residents for their kindness in caring for Christina before her passing.
Funeral Service will be held at Eternal Grace Funerals, 10-1111 Logan Avenue, Winnipeg, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Final viewing at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow afterwards.
