KIMBERLY M. BURTNEY

October 1, 1960 – October 24, 2025

In the early morning hours of Friday, October 24, 2025, Kim passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side.

Kim leaves to cherish her memory, her husband; Wayne Hall, brothers; Arnold (Pat), Randy, her beloved ‘fur babies’; Leonard and Cam, extended family members, and long-time friends; Sharron, Sandy, and Len.

Kim was predeceased by her father; Frank (2008), and mother; Anne (2010).

Kim was especially proud of continuing her mother’s legacy of preparing Ukrainian Borscht, handmade Paska, Pyrizhky, and so many other delicious treats she generously shared with family and friends. Kim was always grateful she had learned these ‘Family Favourites’ from her ‘Beloved Teacher’. Kim’s love for family and friends did not end there. She extended her heart unconditionally to welcome a stray cat or kitten by providing them with shelter, food, water, and the reassurance ‘they would be okay’.

Kim will be forever remembered by family and friends for her kind and gentle manner, generous heart, and always going above and beyond to help others.

Kim’s battle with ‘CJD’ was brief and untimely.

We would like to extend our heartfelt ‘Thanks’ to Dr. R.A. Basharat at St. Boniface Hospital, 6E Medicine Staff, and the Research Team involved with the complex and rare ‘CJD’ diagnosis. Your care for Kim and gentle guidance to us, will always be remembered with gratitude.

A Celebration of Kim’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street with a reception following the service.

Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 2727 Portage Avenue, or Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, in Kim’s memory.

Rest in Peace, Kim. Until we meet again.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My deep condolences to the family. Kim and I were co-workers at Concordia Place and very soon became friends. We worked hard, laughed hard and ate a lot together. Kim worked especially hard and long hours as she cared so much about the residents and would never think of leaving them or anyone else in a predicament. We had many laughs together around our workplace. Our friendship extended past those doors and her home was always open for me and my husband. Many a Friday night the four us played cards. Wayne and Garnet drank rye, Kim and I had Pepsi and of course Kim cooked ! I must of gained 20 lbs!!! I hear the laughter, will always remember the warmth and kindness of Kim. Kim was at my side and beyond when I lost my mother.🙏🏻 Kim had a heart so huge for the cats in need. They knew where to find a warm place and bowl of kibble. Memories are many, time passes but never forgotten of what a wonderful friend I had in Kim. Then came the years of seeing Kim in foot boot but never really complaining of pain. Kim was always at the restaurant with Sandy serving customers, Wayne peeling potatoes to keep him active and occupied. We would bump into each other at a grocery store parking lot, a big hug, a story or two, 5 huge buckets of ice cream in her cart and off she would go to the restaurant make sure she was looking after everyone else!!! That was Kim ! The most generous, genuine gal! Rest In Peace my friend. I will see you again. 💕🤗 - Posted by: Sheila Hawkes (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2025
