LINDA RICKEY MAGUIRE

(nee SILVERMAN)

August 5, 1948 - November 3, 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Linda Rickey Maguire, at the age of 77. Predeceased by her parents, Ben and Marion, Linda was a devoted partner to husband Brian, mother to her beloved daughter, Rachel and caring sister to Leslee.
A grade 3 teacher for over 30 years, Linda is remembered for her dedication to her students, and in particular, teaching music in fun and creative ways.
In her youth, Linda loved to sing and play piano, from boogie-woogie blues to rock ‘n’ roll. Many an hour was spent playing with kid sister Leslee for their parents: tunes from classics like The Sound of Music while Mom and dog Missy hummed along. As a teenager, Linda sang with the Rosh Pina choir, volunteered as a Candy Striper helping veterans, and danced many a night away with friends, Groovin’ and Movin‘ to CKY radio in the rec room.
Above all, Linda loved to shop for clothes, especially new shoes and “sparkly“ anything for herself and her daughter, Rachel. Always “dressed to the nines “, Linda‘s purses and shoes were ‘the latest and the greatest.’ After retirement, the family enjoyed winters in Las Vegas, a well-deserved respite from years of trudging through the snow to her St James school at eight every weekday morning.
Linda and Brian were proud of Rachel’s accomplishments, including her super kid incredible gymnastics and swimming skills, in particular. She so enjoyed watching Rachel swim in their back yard pool with beloved doggy, Buffy who was truly part of the family. You could find him in her arms, anytime, day or night. Linda won her mother’s admiration for carrying on the family tradition of making coleslaw and garlic bread in the secret ‘White House’ recipe.
Most recently, Linda was a resident at the Simkin Centre where she is remembered for her lively hall walking and huge, happy response to music. She left this world listening to a fraylich Klezmer song.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the devoted care workers, nurses, and the wonderful volunteers and musicians who came to see her, especially the couple who visited Linda every day and taught us what it means to be loving and caring to all.
Linda will be sadly missed and always in the hearts of her daughter, Rachel, and her sister Leslee. The funeral will be held at Rosh Pina cemetery Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a meal of condolence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba.
