It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Lynne Phillips, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She passed away peacefully in her home in Grosse Isle on October 29, 2025.
She was predeceased by her husband George Henderson Phillips in 2015. She is survived by her two children, Allan Grimsley (Vidya) and Steven Grimsley (Deborah) of Winnipeg, sister Linda Clark (Frank) of Winnipeg and brother Brian (Patricia) of Manotick, ON, and her stepchildren Curtis Phillips (Diane) of Fort McMurray, AB, Jeffrey Phillips of Winnipeg and Kathleen Adams of Lawrence, Kansas; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Sandra was born on December 12, 1943, in Winnipeg to Gordon and Margaret Earl. She was educated at Churchill High School where she was active in speed skating, volleyball and bowling. However, her true passion was horses. She spent many evenings and weekends caring for and riding them. This evolved into becoming the Equestrian Head Coach at the Legion Athletic Camp for more than 25 years.
In 1985, after raising her two sons, she received her Bachelor’s of Nursing degree from the University of Manitoba. Her desire to help others was evident in her work as the Public Health Program Manager for the Interlake Regional Health Authority until her retirement in 2013.
In her retirement years she and George enjoyed taking driving trips through the U.S. stopping at as many casinos as they could find.
After George passed away, Sandy occupied her time cruising all over the world, visiting Ports of Call in the Baltic, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the Pacific. She also visited far-off places like Singapore, Scotland and Machu Picchu.
In Winnipeg, she loved going out for lunch and attending Blue Bomber games with her sister, watching her great-nieces and nephews play sports, and Steven play softball and curl. Sandy enjoyed going out to dinner and the casino with Allan. She especially enjoyed spending special time with her grandchildren.
In her later years, Sandy volunteered at the Grosse Isle Heritage Park helping out at various sites and the canteen. She also enjoyed walking club and aqua-size with her friends.
Sandy’s life was driven by a desire to make both family, friends and everyone she knew feel welcomed. Her cheerful, nurturing and caregiving qualities were evident in everything she did. She lived a very adventurous life. Her answer to everyone’s requests was “why not!”
Her kind heart, gentle soul and joyous laugh will be missed by all the lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre 3030 Notre Dame Avenue from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the charity of their choice.
