To me she was always Ollie not Olga although I knew that was her legal name. I met her in the spring of 1989 at the Norwood Legion where I would join my Dad for my supper break as my Mom had just died in 1988. My Dad died in December 1989 at which time we spent even more time together. Then I bought a pre-school play franchise based out of San Francisco so she dog sat for me during business trips. She even dressed up as a clown to help me promote my business! She was a great seamstress and one time she repaired my brother’s construction overalls with a bunny patch. That was pretty funny but she was just using what she had on hand as I never supplied her with the patch! She was just a few months younger than my Mom would have been so she lived through the Dirty 30s and knew how to be resourceful. I remember her being able to walk from the legion to home or to take a bus to my place in St. Vital to having to use a cane and then a walker at which point I always picked her up and drove her home. We played many games of crib and scrabble and she was always sharp. She always looked amazing and took great care in how she dressed. She was a fabulous cook and I have many of her recipes which I still use and shall always cherish. I moved out of Winnipeg in 2015 and unfortunately never saw her until just 12 days before her passing as my health too is starting to fail. I am grateful and thankful for the visits and meals with her daughters Carol, Susan and Debbi. Ollie was like a Mom, sister and girlfriend to me. I will cherish all of the memories.
