DONALD JAMES HAUGEN

June 21, 1949 – November 6, 2025

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, brother-in-law and uncle, Donald Haugen on November 6, 2025 at the age of 76. Don was the first born of five children to Isabella and Elvert Haugen. He was born in Summerside, PEI on June 21, 1949. Dad was in the RCAF so Don moved frequently in the early years of his life. He lived in Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Shawbury England and finally Winnipeg where he remained until he moved to Brandon in 1992.

Don attended RRCC where he obtained his Library Technology diploma and the University of Manitoba where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He was employed with the Province of Manitoba from 1973 until his retirement in August 2011. Don took early retirement to help look after his elderly parents in Winnipeg until March 2022.

He was the historian of the family and was a fountain of information. He loved spending time with his family, recommending a good book or movie and cheering on his favourite sports teams. Don was happiest learning about what made others happy and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to share stories of his life’s adventures and working out how you were connected to the family.

He is survived by his siblings Corinne, Ken, Carol (Darrell) and Cynthia (Barry); numerous nieces and nephews; great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Elvert in 2014 and mother Isabella in 2022, brother-in-law Jack in 2024 and sister-in-law Colleen in 2025. Don is now with his lord and saviour. He was deeply loved and will be truly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on May 4, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
