It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Brian.
Brian is survived by wife Nelda; his daughters, Meghan (Wayne) and DeNel. His precious granddaughter Nellie provided him with so much joy.
Brian is survived by his brothers, Rick (Barb), Terry; and his sisters, Brenda (Terry) Linda (Ron), and Wendy (Kelly).
Brian had a very special relationship with his nephew Dean (Kari) and their children, Addison and Connor. He enjoyed attending sporting and family events with them.
Brian also is survived by his in-laws, Pat and Abe Unger; and their children, Dale, Dustin (Angie), Devin (Jessica) and Drew (Nissa). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Bill, and his children, Christine and Stephanie (Will).
Brian graduated from Red River with a Business Certificate and went on to work in finance. Being a hard worker, he became an iron worker and managed the day-to-day operations of companies throughout Canada and the United States. Once again, he went back to Red River and became an Environmental Technologist. He enjoyed working in this field with Pinchin Environmental.
He also loved to travel and although his health was failing, he was determined to take a cruise with his granddaughter Nellie. They cruised to the British Isles to visit his family roots in Wales.
Brian was an accomplished athlete and with the Hawkeyes football club, they brought the Little Grey Cup back to Winnipeg in 1971. For this achievement, he was made a member of the Order of the Buffalo Hunt.
Brian excelled as a back catcher with many ball clubs in Manitoba and Alberta. Later as a parent, he enjoyed coaching his daughter’s ball and basketball teams.
Brian volunteered for 15 years with the Blue Bombers and will be missed by the many friends he made in his position at the Press box. He was also a great supporter of the Arts in Winnipeg and volunteered for more than 15 years with the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Warehouse Theatre.
Brian will be remembered for his quiet strength and his love and devotion to his family and friends.
We look forward to celebrating Brian’s life in the new year. If anyone wishes, they can make a donation in Brian’s name to the Fort Whyte Centre to support Environmental Education.
