We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our deeply loved mother Donna Floren at the age of 97.
She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Vera Schuppert, husband Doug and sister Norma Ritchie.
Donna leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Judy and Joni, sister Joanne Pearce, sister-in-law Evelyn Floren as well as her nieces and nephews and friends.
Mom grew up in Gretna Manitoba, then moved to Winnipeg living together with friends she knew from home. She started working at different jobs then worked at the Bay and Eatons. She always said she had a lot of fun during this time! Eventually she met the love of her life, Doug got married and later moved to East Kildonan. Mom was very active participating in a bowling league and curled at Rossmere. Mom enjoyed gambling lotto tickets, VLT’s, the casino and bingo always hoping to win big! When we were young she babysat in our home for working parents. When we were a little older she worked back at the Bay and then her last job was at a dress shop called Marcine’s which she loved! Mom and Dad had gone to Las Vegas a few times over the years and spent many winters in Arizona with friends. Dad was an avid golfer all his life so mom tried it,loved it so she joined a woman’s league at Kildonan. Mom was a people person, she had many great friends!
Mom loved being outside and when she moved in with Judy there was a perfect spot for her on the deck, we called it Mom’s perch. When Judy bought a trailer she made another perfect perch for mom. Many cherished memories were made sitting on those perches talking, laughing and eating.
Up until the very end mom’s mind was sharp. She knew what was going on in the world and in her daily life, heaven forbid if you tried to keep something from her.
Mom loved dogs, we always had a dog at home and Judy carried this on in her own home. Dazzy spent many days on mom’s lap or sitting in the chair with her.
Mom loved her family and we all loved her.
The last couple of years we had private homecare all the girls were very good and caring. We especially want to thank Tammy and Shirly for all the years they cared for our mom.
Mom spent the last 10 months at River East Personal Care Home due to mobility issues. Mom was always very grateful as we are to the people who truly cared for her and went that extra mile. Mom cared deeply and thought the world of them! Thank you!
She was both our mom and our friend.
Mom we will miss you and love you always!
Following mom’s wishes there will be no formal service.
If friends so desire a donation can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Winnipeg Animal Services.
