Sadly, we announce the passing of our mother Margaret at Carman Memorial Hospital.
She will be missed by her children, Vicki, Brian, Diane (Bob) and Mark, grandchildren, Paul (Amanda), David (Gillian) and Kevin, great-grandchildren Juliana, Ben and Jack. Also remembered by her sister-in-law Dawn and brother-in-law Bruce (Elise) and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Maude, her husband George and son-in-law Harold, her brother John and sisters, Melva and Wilma.
Mom was born on her parents’ farm near Sperling, MB. She was a teacher at Baldur for one year. Mom and Dad were married on November 1, 1952, and raised their four children on the Dracass family farm near Sperling.
Mom worked as a nurse’s aide at the Carman Memorial Hospital from 1970 to 1975 but due to health issues, she retired and spent many years doing volunteer work with the Sperling and Carman United Churches, Carman Health Auxiliary and M.C.C. The family celebrated 100 years on the Dracass family farm in 1991. Mom was part of the Sperling girls’ softball team 1947-1952 and was inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame in 2009.
Mom moved to Carman in 2002 and made many new friends at 5th Avenue Apartments.
Due to her health, she spent the last three months in Carman Hospital.
She was a kind and caring person who was interested in all our lives. We want to thank
the many relatives and friends for their visits, phone calls and letters to Mom over the years. A special thank you to Betty Park and Paul and Doris Verhaeghe.
Thank you to the staff at Carman Memorial Hospital for your wonderful care of our mother
during her stay and to Mike who drives the Carman Handi Van.
Donations may be made to Carman Health Auxiliary or the Carman Handi Van.
A private family graveside service has taken place at Sperling Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
